Full Time Component Technician- Blood Lab, Second Shift4444 Bryant and Stratton Way, Williamsville, NY 14221
Job SummaryReceive, triage, and process incoming blood product and manufacture into various components. May also be required to assist with blood product distribution, customer service and all computer functions related with those duties.
Pay$18.00 per hour
Shift Differential $2.00/hr after 6:30pm
Schedule
  • Full time, second shift, variable hours, will need to train on first shift
  • Rotating weekends and holidays
Education Requirements
  • High school diploma required.
  • Degree in biological/clinical science preferred.
Experience
  • 6 months experience in healthcare/laboratory/manufacturing required.
  • Experience in biological/clinical sciences preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Must have general computer competencies (i.e., Microsoft Office, data entry, fax/copier).
  • Must be detail oriented and highly organized with the ability to multi-task, able to maintain focus and accuracy through interruptions and emotional stress.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal means required.
Essential Job Functions
  • Physically receive, inspect, and reconcile blood products and tubes when they arrive from blood drives and scan into laboratory computer system.
  • Prepare and separate donor blood into components (described in standard operating procedure).
  • Ensure products are stored at appropriate temperatures and processed within time frames associated with type of product. Utilize temperature monitoring system and address temperature alarms and excursions in a timely manner.
  • Perform daily Quality control of lab equipment before use.
  • Perform component manufacturing duties to include segmenting, filtering, sampling, and weighing products for QC.
  • Prepare tubes for shipment to qualified testing laboratory daily. Ensure all required tests are ordered and units reconciled. Submit test request daily and follow up with additional test requirements.
  • Perform BacT culture and or/ pathogen reduction of platelet pheresis products as needed.
  • Further process plasma into cryoprecipitate and pooled cryoprecipitate.
  • Label and validate components when testing is complete.
  • Ensure proper disposition of blood products to include quarantine, investigation and discarding when appropriate. Perform all computer or manual functions necessary to document and track disposition of all components.
  • Consign blood products to hospitals or other consignees (plasma manufacturers, etc.) as necessary.
  • Answers phone/fax orders from hospitals.
  • Adheres to SOPs and follows established blood center SOPs and cGMPs. Demonstrates and maintains competencies of job duties as assigned. Completes training and assignments by due date.
  • Stays in communication by consistently checking emails and mailboxes.
  • Box up biohazard boxes.
