ConocoPhillips is a leading oil and gas company, which is hiring a Willow Field Pipeline Project Engineer for contract. This position will support field engineering needs for the installation scope.
Alaska Overview
ConocoPhillips Alaska and its heritage companies have more than 50 years of business history in Alaska. As Alaska's largest oil and gas producer, the company produced an average 182 thousand barrels of oil 2017. ConocoPhillips, with about 1,000 Alaska employees, holds major ownership interests in the Prudhoe Bay Unit, the Kuparuk River Unit, and the Colville River Unit (Alpine). ConocoPhillips operates the Kuparuk and Alpine oil fields on the North Slope. The company has an ownership interest in the Trans Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) and owns/operates the Polar Tankers fleet.
Asset Description
Willow is a newly discovered prospect located within the National Petroleum Reserve of Alaska (NPR-A) approximately 30 miles west-southwest of the Alpine Central Facility (ACF), within the Bear Tooth Unit (BTU). The discovery was established with the drilling of two exploration wells, Tinmiaq 2 and Tinmiaq 6, in 2016. Further detailed appraisal began in 2018 with the drilling of three additional wells. Additional 2018 exploration success was also encountered in the Willow area at the West Willow prospect, approximately 10 miles from Willow.
The Willow prospect is expected to contain greater than 300 MMBOE gross recoverable resource potential and be developed through a new central processing facility on the North Slope. The Willow Project will include a new Willow Central Processing Facility (WCF), three drill sites, pipelines, roads, bridges, and supporting infrastructure.
This position will support field engineering needs for the following installation scope: Approximately 200 miles of cross country pipelines, three HDD pipeline bores underneath the Colville River, cross country power cable and fiber optic cable hung from messenger cable connecting each drill site to the central facility. Installation of water intake systems at two fresh water lakes.
Assignment Scope: Key Accountabilities
  • Rotational field role based on the North Slope providing engineering support for construction activities.
  • Works closely with field Construction Superintendents and Supervisors to provide engineering support as needed.
  • Provides initial review and responses to field RFIs in a timely manner. Manages responses as required with Company engineers or engineering contractors and installation contractor.
  • Reviews engineering drawing packages and provides input.
  • Performs walk downs of fabricated modules, walkways, supports, etc at fabrication shops in Anchorage and Fairbanks as needed to review progress and prepare for installation.
  • Issues weekly reports to Project Lead summarizing field work and technical issues that are being addressed.
  • Ensures that field decisions for pipelines are made in alignment with all relevant Project Team members, contractors and stakeholders, and maintains records of decision basis.
  • Ensures pipeline installation is in compliance with applicable Willow specifications and standards.
  • Supports Project Lead in the preparation of presentations on project issues and updates for Management.
  • Provides input on contractor change orders.
  • Promotes knowledge sharing and contribute to good communication and cooperation with Management and key individuals.
Required And Preferred Skills And Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably Mechanical, Civil/Structural
  • Advanced level, typically 10-20 years of relevant experience.
  • Identifies problems and develops potential solutions.
  • Makes decisions within well defined parameters.
  • Strong background in design and installation of cross country pipelines preferred.
  • Experience in remote arctic projects preferred.
  • Strong project management, leadership, communication and interpersonal skills on PMT and crew level.
  • Able to apply knowledge and experience to complex problems and develop recommendations.
