Position Title: Drafter I

Department: Technology

Location: Houston, TX

Reports To: Drafting Supervisor

Classification: Salaried - Exempt

Position Summary:

The Mechanical Drafter is responsible for supporting the engineering team in creating and maintaining engineering documentation, including machine drawings, assembly drawings, bill of materials and engineering release/change notices under the direction of engineers and/or management.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Be familiar with company products, policies and procedures pertaining to the engineering group.
  • Be familiar with the company quality program.
  • Able to produce engineering drawings/boms of mechanical parts/assemblies/subassemblies using 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Understand engineering specifications and procedures.
  • Understand machining principles and manufacturing requirements.
  • Be responsible for clear verbal and written communication to product manufacturing.
  • Be responsible for operating in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Participate in continual improvement.
  • Perform other functions and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Create electronic versions of older drawings and bring them up to current standards
  • Identify potential obstacles and establish corrective measures prior to release
  • Confer with other engineering personnel and prepares product designs and modifications as required
  • Basic understanding of GD & T
  • Support engineering test laboratory
  • Effective communication with team and functions

Required Education:

  • Associate's degree, equivalent from two-year college or trade school, or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Proficiency in 3D design modelling is required
  • Must exhibit engineering skills of creativity, analysis and problem solving ability
  • High mechanical aptitude
  • Good interpersonal skills to work in a team environment
  • Candidate should be results oriented with good project management, organizational, prioritization, and team-based skills
  • Multi-tasking - Must be able to coordinate several task at the same

Preferred

  • Solidworks 3D software experience desired
  • Geometric Tolerancing

  • Work will mostly be performed indoors in a controlled environment. Some exposure to the manufacturing and shop areas, which are open, and not air conditioned.
