Job Title Materials Engineer I or II As the Materials Engineer, you will have responsibility for utilizing professionally accepted engineering principles and techniques to engineer and oversee all aspects of ceramic material manufacturing, process/product implementation and quality control. Roles and Responsibilities: • Responsible for developing process controls and implementing continuous improvement ideas. • Develop and maintain complete and accurate written records and process documentation for processes and improvements to existing product and/ or processes. • Focus on increasing process efficiency by actively participating in continuous improvement activities through research, benchmarking and identification of improved methods or tools. • Develop a working knowledge (hands on) of all manufacturing processes, in-process controls, SPC, material characterization and all associated equipment. • Receive and acts upon detailed instructions on specific assignment objectives, points of emphasis, reference and information sources, and possible solutions from an experienced engineer or technical supervisor. • Assist in developing, implementing, and improving production/processing methods and controls to cost-effectively meet expected outcomes. Verifies outcomes and/or courses of action with appropriate personnel prior to taking action. • Collect and correlates production data to identify result discrepancies and drive continuous improvement. • Oversee manufacturing processes and effectively utilizes SPC tools (i.e. control charts, DOE’s, etc.) to maintain and improve product and process quality. • Forge working relationships with manufacturing personnel to develop buy-in and partnership in continuous improvement and process/product quality initiatives. • Perform process control and engineering functions as directed. • Participates in and/or performs process and product audits. Job Requirements: Education & Experience: • Bachelor’s degree in Ceramics, Materials or other related field. • 6 months related materials engineering experience/internships preferred. Functional/Technical Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: • Understands High Purity Alumina manufacturing from material properties through sintering. • Experience with periodic, gas fired kilns would be preferred. • Root cause analysis with six sigma / DMAIC experience is preferred. • Understanding of materials and characteristics, including material formulations, finished material processing, and material quantification and characterization. • Exhibits strong interpersonal and organizational skills, great attention to detail as well as excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills. • Must be able to work with a diverse variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds. Location: • Oak Ridge, TN. Onsite. Job Specific Details: • We are open to offering this role at either level I or II, commensurate with the candidate's experience, skillset, education, and other relevant factors. Target Hiring Range Annual Salary: USD 67,000.00 - USD 89,000.00 Actual compensation is commensurate with experience, skills and education.
