Overview

Copley Hospital is searching for a qualified Surgical Technologist to Perform a wide variety of duties to assist the circulator and surgeon in the care of the surgical patient. Maintains a safe and sterile environment for the patient at all times under the direction of qualified operating room personnel. There is an on-call component to this position. Compliance with all applicable State and Federal laws, regulations, and policies governing the provision of health care.

Responsibilities

• Participates in “Time Out” before start of procedure.
• Passes instruments, suture, sponges, etc.
• Picks/prepares supplies for planned cases.
• Prepares sterile field/supplies/instruments.
• Participate in activities to keep abreast of technical and legal developments.
• Sets up instruments/equipment in a standardized format.
• Uses restraints and padding correctly.
• Anticipates needs of surgeon.
• Applies retraction, cuts sutures, etc. as requested.
• Clears sterile field in aseptic, safe manner. Ensures non-disposable instruments and supplies are not discarded.
• Completes accurate sponge/needle/instrument counts.

Qualifications

• HS diploma.
• Successful completion of Surgical Technologist Program.
• Knowledge of asepsis. Knowledge of supplies and instrumentation. Teaching, communication, organization, ability to work under stress.
