Must have 3 years of experience in a managerial position that includes:

1. Handling and resolving customer service issues.

2. Directly managing a team of 5 or more employees.

3. Daily operations management.

Must have 3 years of animal welfare management experience that includes:

1. Working in a shelter, rescue, vet clinic, or other animal husbandry position. Preferably in a leadership role.

2. Hands on knowledge of basic medical, handling, and documentation practices.

3. Making behavioral and other treatment decisions.

· Vet-tech or clinic management experience is ideal, but not required.

Summary: The Shelter Manager is responsible for all physical operations at the facility including oversight and training of animal handlers, animal control, population management, disease prevention and control, animal care and enrichment. HR responsibilities include staff development, training, scheduling, hiring, and dismissal. Financial responsibilities include ensuring payments are collected for services rendered.

The ideal candidate for this job would be a highly motivated and energetic individual with proven leadership, multitasking, and organizational skills. Candidate must be goal oriented, work with a high degree of accountability, to meet or exceed established goals. This person must have a strong knowledge of current shelter practices and animal welfare issues. The candidate must have a passion for people as well as animals, the ability to remain calm in highly stressful situations, possess strong conflict management skills and interpersonal skills.

He or she must have a current working knowledge of companion animal care and be able recognize health issues within the population. A good understanding of compliance issues involving pertinent federal, state, and local requirements.

The Manager will maintain communication with the Director regarding improvements required to maintain a healthy environment for employees and animals.

Responsibilities:

Daily Operations:

·Supervise daily operations including: animal care, cleaning, vetting, intake, adoptions, transports, fosters, and volunteers.

· Ensure supplies are ordered timely.

Animal Care:

· Coordinate intake and evaluation of animals brought to the shelter.

· Administer vaccinations and preventative wellness protocols, address emerging needs in shelter-population health, and surgical scheduling.

· Ensure detailed records are maintained on each animal.

· Arrange transportation for animals to be vetted or transferred to another organization.

· Handle animal behavioral issues within the shelter and train animal care takers to handle them properly.

· Ensure the total population stays at a manageable number.

Human Resources and People Management:

· Ensure proper training of employees including personnel safety and animal handling.

· Conduct weekly team meetings to ensure staff is up to speed and prepared for the week.

· Conduct employee reviews, hire and dismiss personnel, address performance concerns and guide employees into corrective actions.

· Manage volunteer and community service hours.

· Improve operations for the health and comfort of the animals and employees.
