Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center is Hiring a Nurse Manager Near New Haven, CT

The Nurse Manager will provide innovative operational and clinical leadership at the 150 Sargent Drive site. The Nurse Manger will achieve desired objectives and clinical outcomes, promote and restore patients' health by developing day-to-day management and long-term planning of the department; direct and develop staff; collaborate with providers and multidisciplinary professional staff; and provide physical and psychological support for patients. The Nurse Manager will lead and supervise assigned nursing, medical assistant, and other clinical team personnel as assigned and deliver patient care when needed intervening and/or assisting with nursing functions.
Responsibilities To Include But Are Not Limited To
  • Leadership and Strategic Alignment:
    • Establishes an environment focused on high-value, patient-centered care by collaborating with medical and operational leadership on process redesign and improvement efforts.
    • Ensures site visibility and presence by actively participating in relevant committees, meetings, and organizational initiatives.
    • Collaborates with site leadership to develop and implement strategic plans that align with the organization's mission and goals.
  • Clinical Operations and Quality Assurance:
    • Oversees daily clinical support operations, ensuring adherence to policies, procedures, and regulatory standards (e.g., Department of Public Health, Joint Commission).
    • Develops and interprets clinical support staff standard operating procedures and standards of care, ensuring staff competency and adherence.
    • Leads quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes, safety, and satisfaction.
    • Monitors clinical indicator data and patient satisfaction surveys to identify trends and drive evidence-based practice improvements.
  • Staff Management and Development:
    • Recruits, selects, onboard, and trains high-performing clinical support staff (nurses, medical assistants, etc.).
    • Provides ongoing coaching, mentorship, and performance evaluations to foster staff development and engagement.
    • Addresses performance issues promptly and fairly, providing constructive feedback and disciplinary action when necessary.
    • Fosters a positive and collaborative team environment, promoting effective communication and problem-solving.
    • Provides nursing coverage when there are staff shortages.
  • Workflow Optimization and Efficiency:
    • Maintains expert-level proficiency in all clinical and administrative workflows, serving as a resource and trainer for staff.
    • Creates daily staff assignments and huddles to ensure operational efficiency.
    • Identifies and addresses bottlenecks or inefficiencies in workflows, implementing process improvements to enhance productivity and patient flow.
    • Oversees patient flow, ensuring timely and efficient care delivery while maintaining a positive patient experience.
    • Implements and enforces standard operating procedures related to inventory control, ensuring adequate stock of clinical supplies and minimizing waste.
  • Patient Care and Safety:
    • Maintains a safe and clean patient care environment, ensuring adherence to infection control protocols and safety standards.
    • Collaborates with clinical resources (MDs, PAs, APRNs) to address complex patient care situations and ensure optimal outcomes.
    • Promotes a culture of patient-centered care, advocating for patient needs and ensuring their concerns are addressed.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Preparedness:
    • Ensures the clinic is prepared for inspections and audits by regulatory agencies (e.g., Department of Public Health, Joint Commission).
    • Stays up to date on relevant regulations and standards, ensuring compliance in all aspects of clinical operations.
    • Develops policies and procedures.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • Participates in relevant community programs and professional organizations to represent the organization and stay abreast of industry trends.
    • Performs other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of the clinic.
Requirements
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required and/or a master’s degree in nursing. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Graduate from a NLN accredited school of nursing and a current Connecticut state licensure is required.
  • Must have current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Seven to ten (7-10) years of nursing experience required with at least 3 years of proven experience in a leadership role. Supervisory experience required.
  • The Nurse Manager should be able to interact effectively with all levels of staff, and to create around him or herself a collaborative and supportive team atmosphere.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and direct a large, diverse work force in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • The Nurse Manager will identify and initiate departmental process improvements and set pertinent clinical goals for nursing staff.
  • The job requires exposure working with body fluid and hazardous chemicals. When under these working conditions, OSHA standards and universal precautions must be followed at all times.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal to high volumes of stress.
