Cornell Univ (NYS Colleges & Exper Sta) is Hiring a Remote Camp Maintenance Assistant - Hamden, NY

This position will serve as an assistant to the Camp Facilities Coordinator at 4-H Camp Shankitunk. 4-H Camp Shankitunk is a traditional summer camp located in Delhi, NY. 4-H Camp Shankitunk operates both a day camp program (ages 6-14) and an overnight program (ages 8-16) for youth in the summer and hires approximately 50-60 seasonal camp staff members. 4-H Camp Shankitunk is owned by Delaware County and operated by Cornell Cooperative Extension Delaware County. Under the direction of the Camp Director and Camp Facilities Coordinator, the Maintenance Assistant will provide support in cleaning and maintaining the grounds and physical facilities at 4-H Camp Shankitunk. It is the role of this position to assist in following daily, weekly and monthly cleaning and maintenance schedules for 4-H Camp Shankitunk including, but not limited to: grounds, office areas, kitchen and dining hall, cabins, bath houses, classrooms, storage areas, entrances, etc. This includes assisting with mowing; repairs; minor carpentry and construction projects; and maintenance of equipment as directed. The Maintenance Assistant will also be responsible for monitoring the cleaning supply inventory and notifying the Facilities Coordinator when any supply is running low, or equipment is damaged or requires replacement. Required Qualifications: At least 18 years of age to comply with NYS Department of Labor regulations. Able to lift 25 pounds unassisted. Able to work flexible hours, including weekends. Preferred Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Two or more years of related work experience. Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions Administrative Management – 10% Assist Camp Director and Facilities Coordinator with ensuring compliance with the requirements of the camp safety plan submitted to the Delaware County Department of Health. Work with and support others to ensure a cohesive camping environment that supports community-oriented camp culture and emphasizes acceptance, cooperation, and empathy. Administrative Coordination/Operation – 85% Maintain effective communications with other camp staff. Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment; inform Facilities Coordinator when supplies are low. Assist Facilities Coordinator in preventing health hazards and unsafe conditions through daily inspection of bathroom facilities. Use, store, and dispose of hazardous materials and chemicals using recommended procedures. Clean and sanitize camp bathroom facilities as directed. Sweep and mop floors in designated areas. Clean mirrors and windows in designated areas. Replenish toilet paper, paper towels, and hand soap. Remove and dispose of all trash. Report maintenance needs to the Facilities Coordinator. Report vandalism, theft, trespass, or misuse of equipment and facilities by campers or staff to the Facilities Coordinator and/or Camp Director. Professional Improvement – 5% In cooperation with Supervisor, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and address changes and Association priorities. Collaborate in activities that support Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned. Health and Safety – Applied to all duties and functions Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment. Be familiar with and follow applicable federal, state, and local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement, and standards. Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified. Position Details This is a part-time, nonexempt, temporary position that will run from June 23rd - August 2nd. Compensation paid at $20.00 per hour. Compensation is commensurate with experience, certifications, responsibilities, and availability. The position will work at 4-H Camp Shankitunk in Delhi, NY. The standard work schedule is 20 hours per week Monday - Friday and could include Sunday camper check-in beginning June 30th - July 28th. There may be potential to work additional hours, if needed, and with prior approval. Meals may be available upon request. Age 18 required. Age 21 preferred.
