CoSIDA is Hiring an Assistant Director for Media Relations and Compliance Near Houston, TX

The University of St. Thomas (UST), a private Catholic University committed to the liberal arts and the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, located in Houston, Texas, near the vibrant central business district, Texas Medical Center, and museum district, is seeking applicants for a full-time Assistant Director for Media Relations and Compliance in the Athletic Department. This position reports directly to the Assistant Athletic Director and Compliance Officer.

The Assistant Director for Media Relations and Compliance (ADMRC) will support the Athletic Department Administration to continually promote and market the University's Athletics programs and student-athletes; assisting in the operation of a department which sponsors 15 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III varsity sports. Primary duties center on managing the operations of an NCAA Division III media relations office and all media relations functions. The director will be responsible for all aspects of traditional game day sports information operations, which include marketing materials, producing pre- and post-game notes/interviews, arranging for action photography, logging game statistics, and reporting results. The ADMRC will also directly support the activities of Assistant Athletic Director & Compliance Officer in NCAA DIII Compliance, while promoting the university's core values and a commitment to NCAA rules and regulations.

Reporting lines: The Assistant Director for Media Relations and Compliance reports to the Assistant Athletic Director & Compliance Officer.

Essential duties and responsibilities: Student development theory is used to create, plan, and implement educational, social, physical, and cultural programming designed to enhance the overall experience and achievement of both undergraduate and graduate students. These means are accomplished through the following specific duties: - Collaborate with the Assistant Athletic Director and AD to promote and market UST Athletics. - Develop, implement, and update an annual plan to promote 15 NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletic programs. - Responsible for developing and maintaining the Athletic Department website and social media presence. - Assist the Assistant Athletic Director & Compliance with all NCAA DIII student-athlete eligibility, rules, and regulations. - Assist individual coaches to coordinate promotional material for their respective teams. - Recruit, organize, and supervise the statistics crew and compile event statistics during the event. - Responsible for supervising, writing, editing, and designing of all athletic publications (media guides, game programs, pre and post event stories). - Maintain current and accurate statistical files and historical archives for each varsity sport. - Create and edit video highlights and promotional packages. - Provide statistics to the NCAA national office and the SCAC Conference office, as well as the media. - Assist the Assistant Athletic Director including, but not limited to, the planning, development, and execution of all athletics events. - Serve on Athletic Hall of Fame Committee. - Work closely with Marketing and Communications (MarCom) to align the athletic department with the University's marketing mission under the guidelines of the Call Toward Tomorrow. - Coordinate with other offices and departments on campus as needed including Admissions and MarCom. - Stay up-to-date, knowledgeable, and compliant with all NCAA and SCAC rules and regulations.

Supervisory responsibilities: The Assistant Director for Media Relations and Compliance will supervise student workers and/or event management staff and when available, Sports Information Interns from local schools.

Fiscal responsibilities: The Assistant Director for Media Relations and Compliance will not have any fiscal responsibilities. Individual team and the general athletic budget will be used for the financial support of the media relations office.

Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as may be assigned by Assistant Athletic Director & Compliance Officer.

Working conditions: Position requires irregular office hours including after-hours and weekend work to attend competitions, practices, and university events. Out-of-town travel is required to support and promote the department. Physical requirements are those of normal office conditions with some outside work consistent with game management responsibilities. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible, exempt position.

Knowledge and skills required: A bachelor's degree in journalism, Marketing or Communications, or Sports Management is required, a master's degree is preferred, with a minimum of three years in athletics and/or sports information experience, preferably in a small college or university setting. The successful candidate must also have excellent event management and organizational skills. Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Desktop publishing skills as related to the production of publications required. Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop Illustrator, and Stat Crew necessary. Strong overall communication skills, including excellent writing and editorial abilities.
