The Director of Athletic Communications coordinates all publicity and media efforts for Henderson State's 14 NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletic programs through local, regional and national media outlets in print, broadcast and the internet.

This position serves as a member of the athletics administrative team and works in partnership with the Director of Athletics, the Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs, and the Graduate Assistant for Athletic Communications.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Performs functions associated with managing the Henderson State University Athletic Department communications and game operations activities.
• Provides positive promotion of HSU athletics through every available communication outlet; responsible for the production of official publications.
• Serve as the primary media contact with assigned HSU athletic teams.
• In assigned sports, manage and oversee all competition aspects of NCAA contests including but not limited to statistics, game clock and all other contest related game staff.
• Writes game previews, recaps, and human-interest stories.
• Maintains the Athletic Department website as well as social media (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc.).
• Coordinator of Athletic Department publications.
• Supervises statistical gathering, reporting, maintenance and historical record keeping.
• Serves as the Athletic Department photographer, manages video webcasts of sporting events.
• Demonstrates knowledge of and compliance with all Great American Conference and NCAA rules and regulations as they relate to all job related activities.
• Co-supervises the Graduate Assistants for Athletics Marketing & Communications.
• Assists the Associate Athletic Director in corporate sponsorships, fundraising events and activities and the Hall of Honor ceremony.
• Performs other duties as assigned/and/or outlined in the job description.

Requirements:

Candidate must possess knowledge of NCAA Live Stats software, proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Audition, InDesign, etc.), the ability to produce compelling creative content, and excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. Experience with sport photography and social media management is preferred. A desire to grow in the position and in the profession as a conscientious self-starter is vital. Willingness to work nights and weekends covering sporting events is non-negotiable.
