Position Summary:

Coton House is seeking a creative and skilled individual to join our team. We seek an Interior Design Intern who is self-motivated and passionate about effective communication. In this role, you will work with our Design Team to support multiple projects concurrently. Interns may assist project teams and gain experience at different phases of projects by utilizing their skills in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, or hand sketching to produce working and presentation drawings. In addition, they may assist with research and selection of furniture and finishes. The ideal candidate is organized and creative and works well with the team and deadlines.

Interiors interns may attend construction site visits, an in-office speaker series, weekly design critiques, and Interiors Studio meetings. They may also meet vendors, organize and attend vendor presentations, and maintain the sample library.

Essential Functions:

• Collaborate with project teams to produce detailed construction documents and architectural drawings.
• Assist in all phases of project design, from schematic design sketches to detailed construction documentation.
• As needed, participate in client and team meetings to gain insights into project management and client relations.
• Support the design team in daily tasks, ensuring the architectural standards are maintained in every project facet.
• Sample Library: Organize and update information and price lists, including filing and returning samples and maintaining the electronic library, database, and physical samples.
• Create floor plans and furniture plans with AutoCAD.
• Conduct research for materials, furniture, and photographic images through hardcopy and online website searches.
• Download and edit images and files from websites, catalogs, and websites for presentation use.
• Administrative duties: Updating and filing paperwork, organizing client files, preparing transmittals, packaging and mailing samples/correspondence.
• Vendor communication includes telephone and face-to-face meetings with sales representatives or showrooms, researching pricing, spec sheets, stock checks, etc.
• Assist with errands: Pick up/deliver between various locations and the Coton House office (e.g., samples, mock-ups, etc.). 
• Coordinate with and assist other team members with other office business as needed.
• Prepare client meetings, including hard copy plots, printouts, mood boards, etc.
• Collaborate on detailed drawings and construction documents, including bathrooms, kitchens, bars, closets, etc. Assist with detailing technical drawings, e.g., add quotes, measurements on sections, and design details
• Assist with Marketing tasks such as submittals, press kits, etc.
• Participate in site visits to observe and document construction progress and ensure that designs are being implemented according to specifications

Requirements:

• Must be currently enrolled in a University or Master's program and local to the Greater Houston area.
• Must have an interest in a career in interior design
• Strong user of AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and Windows-based software solutions.
• Strong conceptual, communication, and organizational skills.
• General knowledge of current furniture, material, and building finish products.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to work efficiently and remain organized.
• Ability to maintain a strong focus and confidence under tight deadlines and varying workloads. Strong editing and proofreading abilities.
