NOW HIRING CASUAL LABOR TRANSIT DRIVER!
This position requires the skilled driving of a Community Transit vehicle. The Transit Driver is responsible for the safe transport of passengers to various destinations.
II. NATURE OF WORK
This position requires the skilled driving of a Community Transit vehicle by a professional driver. The Transit Driver is responsible for the safe transport of passengers to various pre-scheduled destinations. Community Transit provides continuous on-the-job and off-the-job training for Transit Drivers.
III. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Transport eligible and certified passengers on the agency's vehicles in a safe and responsible manner.
2. Greet the passengers in a cheerful and pleasant manner.
3. Render hands-on assistance to passengers in boarding or disembarking the vehicle as necessary.
4. Observe all traffic laws, including those related to buses and public transit vehicles.
5. Use correct and concise FCC radio procedures in communication with dispatcher.
6. Maintain neat and accurate records as required, such as daily logs, pre- and post-trip inspections and mileage.
7. Turn in all required records to office daily.
8. Follow all time schedules on established routes or schedule as assigned.
9. Perform daily pre- and post-trip inspection of the vehicle and wheelchair lift equipment.
10. Perform routine maintenance on the vehicle as required, including, but not limited to, washing, cleaning, fueling and adding fluids.
11. Compile accurate accident reports on the scene.
12. Check for valid Medicaid cards of passengers.
13. Available to work flexible hours.
14. Operate the wheelchair lift and ensure safe wheelchair securement of passengers.
15. Recognize and follow logical sequences for pickup and drop-off.
16. Answer any informational questions about the transit system.
17. Attend all training courses as required.
18. Handle face-to-face complaints and problems with patience and professionalism.
19. Detect and report any improper functioning of mechanical systems on assigned vehicles.
20. React quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
21. Maintain safe driving methods.
22. Maintain neat personal and vehicle appearance.
23. Comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act Service Provisions (see attached).
24. The success of the Transit Program is based in part on the contributions of all Transit staff, who are expected to display the following personal attributes: a commitment to public transit and the ability to function as a representative of the system; the ability to quickly understand new information; the pursuit of job objectives when faced with unexpected obstacles; adaptability and willingness to change; willingness to help other employees; the capacity to make reasonable decisions; willingness to accept responsibility; community involvement.
25. In the event the President of the United States or the Governor of the State of Florida declares a disaster or a state of emergency, the Transit Driver shall perform his/her duties under the direction of the Executive Director as prescribed by the COASL Disaster Preparedness Plan in order to implement emergency relief measures and/or activities. All actions under this plan shall be for the purpose of ensuring the health, safety and welfare of the elderly in the disaster area.
26. Display initiative in presenting supervisors with new ideas to benefit the Council, its staff and its clients.
27. Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor at all times with supervisors, co-workers, clients and the general public.
28. Other duties as required by the Transit Operations Dispatcher & Road Supervisor,
Transit Operations Dispatcher, Transit Manager or Transit Director.
MANIFEST
1. Record accurate information as required on the manifest for that day.
2. List all add-on demand response trips daily.
3. Review, verify and sign completed manifests for that day.
ADDITIONAL
1. Drivers must know how to operate accessibility equipment.
2. Service animals are permitted to accompany passengers in vehicles.
3. Operators must allow passengers traveling with respirators or portable oxygen devices to ride the system and be able to secure such equipment as required.
4. Drivers must provide assistance to passengers wishing to transfer to regular seating.
LIFT AND SECUREMENT USE
1. Drivers must transport all persons using wheelchairs or other mobility aids in common use.
2. Passengers using wheelchairs or other mobility aids in common use must use securement positions and drivers must assist with the securement of the wheelchair. This will require that the driver leave his/her seat. This rule overrides union, labor, transit system policies and management agreements.
3. Drivers may not refuse to let passengers with disabilities who do not use wheelchairs, including standees, use the lift to get on or off the bus at any regular stop.
4. Drivers shall attend all training, so that they operate vehicles and equipment safely and properly assist and treat individuals with disabilities in a respectful and courteous way.
