This position will be .5 Resource Room Teacher and .5 Special Education Teacher Consultant.

Responsibilities for Resource Room Teacher

Teaching and Learning :

  • Establish clear learning targets and lesson plans for every lesson to promote student growth.
  • Build rigorous and aligned assessments and consistently implement instructional best practices.

Classroom Culture :

  • Family and Community :
  • Consistently develop strong relationships with students families while diligently informing parents of expectations, positive news, and / or concerns about their children.

Actively participate in professional learning communities (PLCs) with colleagues to improve teaching and student learning.

Reflect on instruction and leadership while contributing ideas, expertise, and time to the mission and goals of the school.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Education and Experience :

Responsibilities for Special Education Teacher Consultant Job Description

Job Description : Overview

Overview

Responsible to provide supportive services and staff development to general education and special education teachers, administrators and parents / guardians on behalf of students who qualify for special education services.

May support school psychologists in gathering information pertinent to student needs by attending child study FIB / BIP meetings, etc to support student growth.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Other duties may be assigned.

  • Conduct informal assessment of students to assist in the determination of eligibility and present level of educational performance.
  • Assist in the development of an educational program with appropriate instructional techniques and curriculum that can be used successfully in the classroom.
  • Complete and present a written TC evaluation report to parents / guardians and the local educational agency with required timelines.
  • Participate in IEPT, MET and other meetings as appropriate.
  • Consult with other personnel including teachers, principals, other ancillary staff and parents / guardians to support student goals.
  • Provide staff development and parent / guardian training.
  • Establishes and maintains appropriate records, reports and procedures including, but not limited to, behavioral data and student progress on IEP goals / objectives.
  • Support behavioral analysis and program planning for behaviorally disordered children.
  • Conduct classroom observations.
  • Provide consultation to parents, school personnel, students and others.
  • Assist in the development of IEP goals and objectives.
  • Consult with other personnel including teachers, principals, other ancillary staff and parents to evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate records, reports, documentation and procedures.
  • Provide training (professional development) for staff and parents as appropriate.
  • Provide prereferral consultation.
  • Use various software packages for communication and documentation purposes.
  • Maintain regular consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Maintain a professional personal appearance.
  • Adhere to district health and safety procedures.
  • Adhere to Board Policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality.

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE :

Must meet Michigan Department of Education requirements for Teacher Consultant in one or more areas of Special Education.

Leadership experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS :

LANGUAGE SKILLS :

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, parents, students, and other professionals (as appropriate).

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS :

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Knowledge of and ability to interpret statistics, standard scores and validity and reliability data.

REASONING ABILITY :

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES : Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.

Must have essential technology skills, i.e. skilled at using PC computer, laptop, assistive communication devices / technology and other educational technology and software.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication.

Must be able to meet multiple demands from several people. Must meet with timeline requirements.
