County of Kent is Hiring a Drain Maintenance Technician Near Grand Rapids, MI

Job Responsibilities

The Kent County Drain Commissioner’s Office is seeking qualified candidates for Drain Maintenance Technician. This position is primarily responsible for storm water drain inspection throughout Kent County, performing the work under general supervision with considerable individual responsibility in completion of duties. Below is a non-exhaustive list of typical duties for this position:

  • Conducts on-site inspections of County drain, open channels and detention facilities.
  • Prepares daily inspection reports in adequate detail to properly disclose the work site progress and conditions.
  • Coordinates maintenance of the County drains with contractors through bidding process, establishing a clear bid packet with standards and specifications.
  • Inspects the completed work of contractors and determines and communicates any required modifications to the job.
  • Communicates with the public on the maintenance that will occur on property and discusses any concerns, addressing any complaints on the quality of the contractors work and coordinating solutions.
  • Assists in the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) program and Asset Management of the stormwater systems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High-school diploma or equivalent, including or supplemented by trade school courses, and one year’s experience in the inspection of storm sewers, or a combination of education and experience which indicates an ability to meet the requirements of the classification.

Valid Michigan driver’s license required.

Must be able to work responsibly with minimal supervision.

Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, lift up to 50lbs and bend and stoop while inspecting drains.

Experience in the operation and/or construction of storm water drain systems is desirable.
