County of Marathon is Hiring a Health Educator Near Wausau, WI

POSITION SUMMARY This position promotes health and disease prevention; assesses the health status and needs of the community; identifies gaps; and works to collaboratively develop, implement, and evaluate community health policies, systems, environments, and initiatives. Some positions may have a special focus on a specific community health priority. Work is performed under the general direction of the Director-Community Health Improvement. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s or master’s degree from an approved college or university in health education, community health education, public health education, or related field, plus some related work experience. Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) is required or must be obtained within one year of employment and maintained during incumbency. Also required is a driver’s license and a driving record that meets County standards or ability to obtain reliable transportation. NORMAL DUTIES Obtain, disseminate, or provide expert assistance on best practices in population health, local data, and community conditions that affect health behaviors, status, and outcomes. Create and articulate effective communications for a variety of audiences using multiple mediums. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate initiatives for identified health priorities. Independently, or with community planning teams, analyze public health needs in the community and identify, implement, and evaluate program impacts and outcomes. Establish effective relationships and manage community groups to coordinate and achieve programmatic goals and leverage resources and community assets. EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED Recruit community organizations, stakeholders, and potential participants for collaborative initiatives, program planning, and program implementation. Establish and maintain relationships with community partners to advance the community health priorities. Design, implement, and coordinate community health improvement collaborations and initiatives. Obtain, review, and interpret health related data about social and cultural environments, needs, protective and risk factors, health behaviors, and population health outcomes. Create public health messaging, infographics, and media campaigns using the principles of health literacy, data visualization, and message mapping. Employ educational advocacy with stakeholders for policy changes to address community health issues. Maintain data related to programs, services, population health initiatives, and health outcomes. Prepare media releases and serve as a media spokesperson. Conduct effective meetings and collaborative decision-making through group process facilitation. Utilize quality improvement processes to develop solutions to add value to collaborative work. Establish professional development goals that advance broader County goals and community health priorities. Contribute to a positive work culture. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or provide simple but continuous adjustment on equipment such as multi-line phone, computer, laptop, scanner, printer, calculator, copy machine, fax and other office machines; audio visual equipment; environmental health monitoring equipment; or related materials used in performing essential functions. Requires the ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet, and limbs in performing coordinated movements requiring moderate skill such as data entry and/or typing. Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing five to ten pounds. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a workstation or keyboard. Requires the ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, shapes, sounds, and textures associated with job-related objects, materials, and tasks.
