Position Announcement

Job Title: Clinic Supervisor

Starting Salary Range: $29.51-$31.57 / hour

Position Status: Full-time

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm

Position Summary

The Clinic Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operation of the immunization clinic. Work involves directing and scheduling staff to meet client workload; helping nursing staff on difficult or unusual assessments; keeping abreast of changes in the field of immunizations; and maintaining clinic records. Work is performed according to nurse training, OSHA standards, public health, ACIP and other guidelines, and county policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assures that the clinic is properly staffed to provide services to clients daily.
  • Plans, schedules, assigns, reassigns, and evaluate the work of clinic staff.
  • Provides a variety of immunization and public health information to the public in person or over the phone.
  • Monitors immunization standards or schedules and notifies staff of changes.
  • Provides advice and assistance to clinic nurses as needed.
  • Conducts inventories and orders supplies and equipment to ensure proper functioning of the clinic.
  • Works with physician’s offices, schools, and other agencies to convey and obtain information on the immunization program in the County.
  • Travels to immunization clinics in communities and schools; assists in setting up field clinics.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of ACIP standards, immunization schedules, side effects, and reactions to various vaccines.
  • Knowledge of clinic policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of modern theory and practices in professional nursing.
  • Knowledge of the more common physical illnesses, obvious symptoms, and appropriate medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of the methods used to calm anxious patients or relatives.
  • Some knowledge modern supervisory principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of local government operations, Human Resource related programs, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other similar programs.
  • Skill in providing immunization services to clients.
  • Skill in management and supervision.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, assign, direct, and evaluate the work of clinic personnel.
  • Ability to maintain clinic records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to respond to each patient with empathy and respect.
  • Ability to accurately read immunization records and manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Ability to communicate in a friendly, pleasant, and courteous manner.
  • Ability to work with clients from varied socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply county policies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, other clinic employees, physician offices, patients, and family members.
  • Ability to deal properly with confidential and sensitive matters.

Required Qualifications

  • Requires an Associate’s or technical Degree in Nursing and a minimum of 5 to 8 years of related experience as a clinic nurse providing immunization services to clients, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois or in a state in which Illinois has a reciprocity agreement.
  • Valid Illinois Driver’s License

Physical Attributes/Demands

The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Requires the ability to balance, climb, crouch, kneel, lift, and push/pull various objects, stand, stoop, and walk. Requires mental acuity including the ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, the ability to express ideas by means of the spoken word and possess close visual acuity.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a clinic and involves frequent exposure to body fluids, airborne diseases, and anxious, angry, and/or combative patients. Requires the use of latex gloves, gowns, and facial masks. Work also involves operating an automobile in a variety of weather conditions.
