Nassau County Department of Public Works is seeking applicants for the position of Architect IV.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Assists in planning and directing architectural engineering programs, including the design and construction or alteration of buildings and structures; performs related duties as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES
1. Assists in planning and directing architectural engineering programs, including the design and construction or alteration of buildings and structures.,
2. Recommends revision, approval, or disapproval of architectural plans submitted by consultants.
3. Enacts standard procedures and instructions for field operations.
4. Coordinates the activities of architectural drafting personnel.
5. Liaises with structural, electrical, and mechanical engineers to address architectural problems.
6. Assists in conducting periodic and final inspections of architectural projects.
7. Resolves architectural problems reported by subordinate personnel.
8. Reviews correspondence concerning contracts for construction, complaints, dealings with other municipalities, and other related matters.
9. Prepares necessary specifications for design, construction, or alteration of buildings.
10. Provides consultation and advice on the architectural design and location of public buildings, memorials, and monuments.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of architectural engineering.
2. Thorough knowledge of modern building construction methods and materials and preparation of cost estimates and specifications.
3. Knowledge of laws and regulations affecting public building construction projects.
4. Knowledge of departmental administrative and technical policies and practices.
5. Skill in designing buildings and preparing plans and specifications.
6. Ability to coordinate the work of subordinates, contractors, and related personnel.
7. Ability to provide sound advice on a wide variety of architectural design problems.
8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental officials and architectural and contractor representatives and associations.
9. Ability to express oneself effectively, both orally and in writing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1. Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university, with a five-year major in Architecture
and
Six years of satisfactory experience as an architect
or
2. Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university, with a four-year major in Architectural Technology
and
Seven years of satisfactory experience as an architect
or
3. Associate's degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a major in Architectural Technology or Construction Technology
and
Nine years of satisfactory experience as an architect.
