Description

POSITION PURPOSE

The Engineering Technician provides technical support to management, manufacturing, and engineering teams on approved projects. This position resolves issues and provides workable solutions to product and product quality concerns. This position creates prototypes for evaluation. The Engineering Technician leads the process of preserving and maintaining APC assets and investments by extending their useful life and value.

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions

  1. Create prototypes for engineering evaluation per specification.

  2. Provide testing support for the Engineering Department on projects.

  3. Document test results based upon a pre-approved test plan.

  4. Assist in creating manufacturing fixtures and jigs to improve production efficiencies and support lean manufacturing.

  5. Provide detailed training to the manufacturing staff on the proper use of equipment.

  6. Act as a liaison and facilitate activities between APC and maintenance contractors.

  7. Manage Preventive Maintenance Program facilities, equipment, vehicles.

  8. Perform minor maintenance of facilities, equipment, vehicles.

  9. Lead the installation of manufacturing equipment as specified by the Engineering Department.

  10. Create manufacturing fixtures and jigs to improve manufacturing efficiency and support Lean manufacturing.

  11. Provide detailed training to the manufacturing staff on proper use of equipment.

  12. Suggest improvement in manufacturing processes.

  13. Perform Quality Control duties as assigned.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS

  1. Suggest improvements in manufacturing processes.

  2. Support the Dealer Support Department on unique product requirements.

  3. Assist in fabrication of marketing displays and samples.

  4. Support product assembly in manufacturing.

  5. Provide support to manufacturing in receiving and stocking materials.

  6. Assist in the installation and planning of plant layout as specified by manager.

  7. Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. As needed for projects.

Qualifications


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience.

  1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering or an associate’s degree with advanced experience, or 20 years pool cover industry experience without a degree is required.

  2. Minimum of ten years’ experience in hands-on manufacturing in a team environment is required.

  3. Minimum of five years’ experience with light-manufacturing machine repair is required.

  4. Valid driver’s license is required.

  5. Forklift and aerial lift operator certification is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  1. Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

  6. Basic mathematical skills.

  7. Ability to prioritize, organize, and work independently with minimal supervision.

  8. Ability to operate heavy machinery, basic hand tools, and power tools.

  9. Knowledge of manufacturing processes, mechanics, and basic quality principles.

  10. Ability to work as part of a team.

  11. Ability to work additional hours beyond eight hours per day and weekends as required.

  7. This position is frequently exposed to noise, cold or hot temperatures, dirt/dust, moving parts, fumes/odors, and heavy machinery and equipment.
