Covington Community School Corp is Hiring a Covington High School Principal Near Covington, IN

COVINGTON HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

Reports to: Superintendent

Supervises: All Certified & Non-Certified Employees

Length of Contract: 220 days


Position Requirements:

1. Successful teaching experience at the middle or high school level.

2. Master’s Degree, or higher, from an accredited college or university.

3. Valid Indiana Secondary Administrator License.


Position Responsibilities:

1. Curriculum and Instruction:

  • Supervise the educational program and provide curriculum and instructional leadership at the high school.
  • Promote the cooperative development of a school improvement plan which best meets the needs of students and district goals.
  • Demonstrate skill and knowledge in designing, implementing, and evaluating major programs and activities to bring about needed change and higher academic performance.
  • Apply sound principles of learning theory in developing instructional programs that are of high quality for all students.
  • Have knowledge of and be able to retrieve, analyze, and sort data in order to make instructional decisions to improve student achievement.
  • Demonstrate research-based instructional leadership practices.
  • Use the latest and best research to develop, improve, and evaluate effective instructional programs.
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop and maintain curriculum standards, develop mission statements, and set performance goals and objectives. Study and initiate the use of new teaching methods and materials, initiate, encourage, and direct experimental and pilot programs of instruction.
  • Use effective schools research in developing and implementing a school vision and action plan.

2. Personnel Management:

  • Supervise and evaluate staff assigned to the school in a timely manner.
  • Observe teaching methods and examine learning materials in order to evaluate and standardize curricula and teaching techniques, and to determine areas where improvement is needed.
  • Administer provisions of the teacher master contract.
  • Evaluate the work of instructional assistants, secretaries, and other non-certified personnel.
  • Implement a plan for the recruitment, selection, assignment and transfer of teachers and non-certified personnel in order to make a recommendation to the Superintendent.
  • Establish and maintain the documentation for the evaluation of teachers and non-certified personnel.
  • Plan and provide professional development for teachers and non-certified staff.
  • Collaborate with district special education coordinator in regards to special education services.

3. Pupil Services:

  • Supervise the safety and welfare of students.
  • Direct disaster preparedness and school crisis management plans.
  • Implement school and district policies and administrative guidelines pertaining to student discipline.
  • Coordinate and participate in the process of recommending students for special education and other special programs.
  • Assist with transportation issues, and problems, in cooperation with the Director of Transportation.
  • Counsel and provide guidance to students regarding personal, academic, or behavioral issues.

4. Finance and Business Management:

  • Maintain records and submit reports as required, in a timely manner.
  • Determine allocations of funds for staff, supplies, materials, and equipment, and authorize purchases.
  • Prepare and submit budget requests and recommendations to the Superintendent and grant proposals to solicit program funding.

5. School Community Relations:

  • Establish and maintain good school-community relations.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written skills in communicating with students, staff, community, district personnel, and Board members in a timely, clear, and appropriate manner.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skill in using collaboration and consensus building in decision-making processes.
  • Be proactive in integrating parent and community collaboration in the vision and action planning of the school.

6. Extra-Curricular Activities:

  • Plan supervision for all extra-curricular activities.
  • Responsible for the operation of the athletic department in conjunction with the Athletic Director.
  • Make recommendations to the Superintendent for coaches and ECA sponsors.
  • Annually evaluate all personnel involved in extra-curricular activities.

7. The High School Principal will fulfill all other tasks as deemed reasonable and appropriate by the

Superintendent.


Terms of Employment:
220 day contract
