POSITION TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONAL - AUTISM - 183 Day $19,599 per year. ($14.28 an hour x 7.5 hours x 183 days) This is prorated if you do not start at the beginning of the year.LOCATION: Thomas Crossroads Elementary SchoolJOB DESCRIPTION:To provide competent support and assistance to the self-contained classroom teacher(s) in the full implementation of the instructional programs for students with Autism. Meets and instructs assigned groups and individuals in locations and at the times designated by the teacher. Presents materials required in the teaching assignment within the content limitations of the system curriculum guides and under the direction of the teacher. Assists the teacher in the implementation of programs of study that, as much as possible, meet the individual needs and abilities of the students. Assists in creating a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and cognitive/behavioral level of the students. Provides the teacher with input for assessing the accomplishments of students. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Provides feedback to learners about their academic progress and behavior. Reproduces, organizes, distributes, and collects instructional materials for implementation of instructional programs. Complies with any reasonable oral or written directive of the teacher, the principal, or other appropriate administration or supervisor. Maintains strict confidentiality of all student information. Provides support to students with Autism in a variety of settings, as directed by the teacher. Assists in the collection of data and in compiling and organizing data for review by the teacher. Assists with the implementation of sensory diets/protocols and positive behavioral supports/interventions. Participates successfully in all training programs designed to increase skill and proficiency related to the individual job assignment, as well as procedures to be used with students with disabilities. Demonstrates the ability and willingness to perform special duties as required for meeting the unique needs of specific student populations, including assisting students with functional life skills including grooming, toileting, changing, lifting, feeding.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION OR TRAINING:Qualify for a Paraprofessional Certificate by either holding an Associate Degree or higher or 90 college quarter hours/60 semester hours or pass the assessment test for paraprofessionals (GACE). Mindset de-escalation certification or ability/willingness to successfully complete Mindset certification is required.
REQUIRED SKILLS:The ability to organize, direct, and control small and large groups of children in a variety of activities and settings.The ability to adjust to changing conditions and situations.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:Experience working with and directing the activities of children, preferably children with Autism.
