Colonial Pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting more than 100 million gallons or 2.5 million barrels per day. Colonial transports various grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, jet fuel, and fuels for the U.S. military through a pipeline system. Colonial transports approximately 45 percent of all fuel consumed on the East Coast, providing refined products to more than 50 million Americans. About the Principal Enterprise Architect Position As an Principal Enterprise Architect, you will proactively and holistically guide enterprise leaders, product managers, product owners, and distributed product delivery teams through transformation and optimization initiatives, supporting the formulation of business strategy, outcomes, and capabilities as a member of the company’s growing, first-class architecture practice. In this strategic role, your scope of activities includes helping the organization achieve targeted business outcomes related to growing revenue, optimizing costs, mitigating risks, and improving sustainability, with a focus on development of the business and technology strategy and enterprise architecture of the organization. This position is a critical member of the Architecture Team working collaboratively across Technology and Business Units to enable CPC business functions through technology. What You Get to Do: Builds the EA value proposition by offering services and skills to support the development and execution of business strategy. Develops a portfolio of consulting services designed to meet business and stakeholder needs. Defines capabilities through the relationship between people, processes, information, technology, and other components of the enterprise operating model. Provides recommendations to add to or enhance capabilities. Leads analysis of the business’ future-state capabilities and future (and current) technology environment to detect critical gaps and opportunities and recommend solutions for improvement to drive the business towards its targeted outcomes. Leads and facilitates interaction with business leaders, product managers and product owners over the risks and implications of product decisions. Coordinates and executes Architecture Review Board (ARB) meetings and produces ARB report outputs summarizing presentations, key discussion points, action items, and recommendations. Develop strategies which align with and lead to the achievement of strategic outcomes defined by senior leaders. Proactively identifies and helps the organization respond to disruptive forces. Leads the analysis of business and operating models, market trends, and the technology industry to determine their potential impact on the enterprise’s business strategy, direction, and architecture. Evaluates and recommends forward-looking technologies to business and technology leaders. Assesses disruptive forces affecting the organization and identifies technology-enabled innovation opportunities that enables business strategy. Contextualizes trends based on technological, political, economic, social/cultural, trust/ethics, regulatory/legal, and environmental trends to enhance strategic decision making. Scans emerging technologies and the business ecosystem for major disruptive technology and nontechnology trends that affect business. Facilitates cross-functional alignment, connecting strategy to execution, through a collaborative, supportive and consultative manner, driving the organization’s digital business strategies and balancing innovation and growth. Translates and guides execution of business strategy to achieve the organization’s targeted business outcomes by leading the development of an implementation roadmap for the enterprise architecture. Constructs technology-enabled business and operating models and provides viable options and visibility into execution issues. Engages senior business stakeholders to ensure that project delivery aligns with longer-term strategic roadmaps. Provides advice and recommendations promoting the maturing of business capabilities to deliver desired business outcomes or tangible business value to the company. Supports company transformational initiatives such as CMP, SCADA Modernization, and the Cloud Data First initiative through the definition of technical standards, the establishment of lifecycle management recommendations, the evaluation of technology options, and the production of blueprints and designs. Presents gap analyses and/or IT investment roadmaps that reflect the status of the existing IT landscape, namely, its ability to contribute to future-state business capabilities around ecosystems and digital platforms. What You Bring to the Table: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information management, engineering, business administration, or related field from an accredited college or university; will consider a combination of experience and/or education. Ideally, 15 years of relevant, progressive advancement across multiple technology disciplines such as: business, information, application, technical, or solutions architecture; application development; middleware; information analysis; database management. Ideally, 7 years of direct experience in an Architecture role. Experience with digital transformation and change management. An understanding of architectural tradeoffs and the ability to communicate and present architectural decisions to all partners. Ability to translate and distill complex technical concepts into easy-to-understand solutions and constructs for a variety of executive, business, and partner audiences. Strong relationship-building skills, fostering an ability to influence without authority. Understanding of financial concepts to support budgeting, cost benefit analysis, and business case development. Curiosity, a love of continual learning, and a fearless approach to asking questions. Recognition and respect for the knowledge and potential contributions from everyone up and down the organization. Excellent time management, documentation, communication, and written skills. Experience in regulated industry. Experience with cloud platforms, Google Cloud Platform preferred. One or more architecture or engineering certifications, such as: TOGAF 9 or above; The Open Group Certified Architect; Professional Cloud Solutions Architect Certification; Google Professional Cloud Architect. Experience or familiarity with both Information (IT) and Operational (OT) technologies. Understanding of the Perdue model, a framework for relationships between industrial control systems and business networks.
