About the Associate Technician Position The Associate Technician, entry-level training position for systems and equipment installation and maintenance across the Colonial system. You will participate in Colonial's Training programs and attend Company coordinated classes and seminars to enhance technical skills/knowledge. Once you complete training and have gained the knowledge and skills, you will be responsible for assisting Technicians in the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of industrial, electrical, electronic, mechanical, and hydraulic systems for pipeline product transportation applied within the Colonial system. What You Get to Do: Learn to read and interprets technical material (i.e. Colonial, vendor and contractor electrical and mechanical drawings, prints and manuals, Right of Way alignments sheets, etc.). Assist in completing documentation including Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) reporting, completion reports, work orders, invoices, etc. Serve on District Emergency Response Team. May maintain emergency response equipment What You Bring to the Table: High School Diploma or GED (General Education Diploma) from an accredited educational institution. Ideally, 1 of industrial related experience in technical or operations (mechanical or electrical) related field experience. Mechanical aptitude, including knowledge of machines and tools, and their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Skilled in basic mathematics including algebra and geometry to solve problems. Valid Driver’s License to drive company and personal vehicles with the ability to travel up to 30%. Ability to work extended hours, holidays, and/or weekends as required; subject to call-out and occasional overtime. Physical Requirements & Work Conditions: Must be able to work indoors and outdoors at all hours in all weather conditions in close proximity to refined petroleum products and heavy equipment. Physical mobility to sit, stand, reach, pull, push, and bend. Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. unassisted. Ability to work in non-permit required confined spaces. Ability to verbally communicate by two-way radio, especially during emergency response. Traverse uneven terrain to reach secluded right-of-way. Operate various types of tools and equipment safely and efficiently. Climb tank steps up to 60 ft. high and climb vertical ladders to valve platforms up to 10 ft. high. Ability to work from valve platforms and tanks to 60-foot heights. Normal visual acuity to perform duties of position. If vision is corrected, must be corrected to 20/40 or better. Must have ability to distinguish colors, especially red, green, white, and black. Color recognition for control panel indicator lights to analyze product colors. Ability to detect the presence of petroleum products by smell.
