CPS is Hiring a Coatings Applications Innovation Scientist Near Wilmington, DE
Do you enjoy developing new Wood, DTM, GI, or Automotive Coatings? Do you creatively select new raw materials to make them better? THEN take a look at this exciting new expansion position created to help drive new product development activities into adjacent markets with a raw material supplier. This high-profile position will lead applications development into waterbased coatings for Wood, Metal and Plastic! Work with customers, trade shows, support Sales and Marketing too! The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Responsible to develop leading-edge chemical additive technology for coating systems that meet diverse industry needs
Drive innovation projects through stage-gate process; led cross-functional team on new application development in coatings
Design and execute experiments, interpret data, and independently draw conclusions; possibly direct technician support; assist in filing of IP as required
Work with marketing and sales professional to understand industry needs; lead or participate in multiple research projects with members of multi-disciplinary teams to achieve targets
Communicate effectively with global internal and customer bases, build relationships with industrial colleagues
Maintain up to date understanding of critical science for development efforts

JO: 8.24SK Technical Qualifications:In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:
B.S. degree in polymer science or chemistry
10 years' experience of coating formulation or additives with a focus on industrial coatings including wood, metal and/or automotive coatings
Track record of successful innovation through commercialization
Have experience working with global multidisciplinary project teams, and be able to lead such teams
Effective oral and written communication skills
Travel up to 30% of the time
The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:
Advanced degree in polymer, chemistry or emulsion science with 3-5 years
Industrial experience in a customer facing role, and presentation skills
Entrepreneurial mindset
Optional experience with cellulosic chemistry and properties
Interest in business drivers for target industry
Knowledge of water-borne coatings technology and testing methodology would be a plus
Understanding of market fundamentals of coatings industry
