DescriptionTechnology Coordinator - Cranbrook Academy of ArtCranbrook Academy of Art, ranked nationally as one of the top graduate programs in art, architecture and design, is now accepting applications for a Technology Coordinator. The position assists the Technology and Central Media Lab Manager in providing student support and equipment maintenance for the Academy’s high-end Apple and PC-based creative hardware and software, as well as managing the TC2 digital loom. The Technology Coordinator ensures that students have effective and successful experiences using the hardware and software, and that the Academy’s investment in high-end equipment is protected.
Core Work Hours: This is a full time, school session position working 40 hours per week September–May. However, the Coordinator should expect frequent lecture days that require work until 8 PM or occasional weekend lectures and will need to adjust their schedule accordingly.
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To
  • Manages the TC2 digital loom, including setup, maintenance, and user support.
  • Helps with the management and upkeep of the deSalle Auditorium, a prominent venue at the Academy that serves as a central hub for various lectures, presentations, and events.
  • Helps manage the deSalle YouTube channel, including recording and livestreaming lectures, as well as providing technical support for Zoom webinars.
  • Provides software instruction and troubleshooting to a diverse population of Artists-in-Residence (faculty), students, and staff.
  • Optimizes and maintains equipment and software; performs scheduled updates on Central Media Lab managed workstations.
  • Continuously seeks self-education on new technological trends, creative software, and equipment options.
  • Makes recommendations for new equipment/software to the Technology Manager to enhance the Academy’s program.
  • Maintains a flexible schedule and willingness to work evenings and weekends to support lectures and events in deSalle Auditorium or over Zoom.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • While there are no direct supervisory responsibilities, this position will help direct the work of student workers in the Lab, the Auditorium, and the Loom.
Requirements
  • A minimum of an Associate's degree in a related field is required; a BFA or MFA degree is preferred.
  • Weaving experience, preferably on a digital loom.
  • General knowledge of audio/video production and experience in operating and troubleshooting audio/visual equipment for lectures, panels, screenings, meetings, and other events.
  • Working knowledge of application suites offered by Apple, Adobe, and Microsoft Office.
  • Working knowledge of studio lighting, camera, and audio/video production staging.
  • Experience supporting digital printing workflows and in printer maintenance.
  • Ability to prepare user instructions for complex equipment.
  • Ability to present intricate concepts and teach complex multimedia applications both one-on-one and to small groups.
