Position Requirements: Our client is seeking a well-qualified Technician. This position works within the System-wide Mental Assessment Response Team (SMART) Section, in the Support Services Division.
Under the general supervision of a Lieutenant, or designee, this position will perform a variety of field operations, technical skills, educational and administrative duties of a law enforcement professional working within a Co-Responder model of criminal justice and mental health crisis response. SMART pairs this law enforcement professional with a master’s level mental health clinician, who also coordinates care with an intensive case manager. The “teams” are striving to divert, assess, stabilize, or intervene on mental health-related public safety calls. Technicians provide safe working environments and security for SMART clinical staff, case managers, and community partners working on law enforcement calls and scenes. Technicians work with their clinician partners in providing complete mental health assessments, providing clients with stabilizing support, assisting in safety planning and lethal means restriction, and finally working toward safe custody and transport for those who may be taken into protective custody when intervention is necessary.
SMART Technicians will use “least restrictive means” through a coordinated and comprehensive system-wide approach when employing solutions for those in crisis.
Expectations of the Chosen Candidate: The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented professional, skilled, and competent in the application of the technical aspects of this role, problem-solving, and providing superior customer support in response to internal and external requests and calls for service. The candidate will be highly detail-oriented and accurate in work product. The selected candidate will demonstrate a proven ability to quickly absorb and understand unfamiliar subject matter. Qualifications Must be 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent is required, Colorado POST certified, candidates with provisional certification must be able to become POST certified within six months of hiring as stated by Colorado POST. Candidates who are currently enrolled in a POST approved academy may be made a conditional offer of employment and must be POST certified prior to being appointed as a peace officer as stated by Colorado POST. Off any probationary period and not currently involved in any disciplinary action. Valid Colorado Driver's License at time of appointment and throughout employment. Must be able to pass a background check, psychological examination, polygraph examination, and physical exam and obtain a security clearance for work with Criminal Justice Records.
