Position Description:

  • Responsible for completing all mental health and substance abuse crisis assessments for children and adolescents referred from Union, Broken Arrow, and EPIC (physical location) Schools. 
  • Performs a comprehensive mental health assessment, that includes evaluation of mental status, current and history of violence, suicidal or self-harm behavior, substance use, level of functioning, health behaviors, trauma, sexual behaviors, and social and developmental history.
  • Responsible for making appropriate recommendations based off the completed crisis assessment and any screenings completed.
  • Identifies and analyzes factors that affect mental health such as: genetics, family, environment, trauma, psychodynamics, physiological processes, substance abuse, etc.
  • Collects data from multiple sources using assessment techniques that are appropriate to the guest’s language, culture, and developmental stage, including, but not limited to, screening evaluations and other standardized instruments.
  • Diagnoses psychiatric and co-occurring disorders.
  • Evaluates potential abuse, neglect, and risk of danger to self and others, such as suicide, homicide, and other self-injurious behaviors, and assists guests and families in securing the least restrictive environment for ensuring safety.
  • Promotes a recovery environment that reflects person-centered, culturally competent, and trauma-informed principles as well as the service values of CREOKS Behavioral Health Services.
  • Maintains the clinical records system in accordance with ODMHSAS, OHCA, and CREOKS policies and procedures.
  • Reads and is knowledgeable of all current policies and procedures of the agency as well as Chapter 23, Chapter 1, Chapter 15, Chapter 18, and other applicable state and federal regulations. 
  • Working knowledge of the standards for initial assessment, protective custody, emergency detention, care, and adjudication of persons considered in need of involuntary treatment as prescribed by Title 43-A, Oklahoma Mental Health Law.
  • Communicates complaints and incidents to supervisory personnel in accordance with agency policies.
  • Serves all clients without regard to their background or history, placing the client’s needs above all other considerations.
  • Models and practices recovery principles in all activities (e.g. hope, empowerment, mutuality, etc.) and fosters a recovery environment.
  • ·Serves as a positive role model demonstrating professional and caring attitudes and behaviors toward co-workers, guests, and visitors.
  • Courteously aids in a concise, informative manner, keeping a positive tone and appropriate non-verbal communication.
  • Exhibits a non-judgmental approach, effective listening, good eye contact and positive interactions.
  • Ensures confidentiality of all client’s information.
  • Contributes to effective teamwork by combining skills and energies in a coordinated effort with supervisors, co-workers, clients, and outside agencies.
  • Utilizes available methods to maintain communication (e.g. memos, electronic communications, communication logs and shift reports).
  • Understands and utilizes non-violent crisis intervention procedures towards the de-escalation of an agitated guest as needed. Participates in safety interventions as a last resort when de-escalation fails. Follows approved format.
  • Be on-call to support Crisis Directors/Assistant Directors and the program, as needed
  • Will assist in answering crisis phone when crisis response specialists are all out on calls
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements: 

  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or related degree.
  • Possess a valid Oklahoma license to practice psychotherapy.
  • Thorough understanding of the standards for initial assessment, protective custody, emergency detention, care, and adjudication of persons considered in need of involuntary treatment as prescribed by Title 43-A, Oklahoma Mental Health Law.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of crisis intervention as well as recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, culturally competent, and co-occurring care. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with school aged children and families.
  • Conceptual awareness of how and where community mental health services interface with allied human services organizational activities.
  • Ability to maintain flexible hours.
  • Must have a valid OK driver’s license.
  • Successful completion of agency-required training as well as the agency approved nonviolent crisis de-escalation training within 30 days from date of hire.
