Crisis Preparation and Recovery is Hiring a Public Safety Outpatient Counselor Near Phoenix, AZ

Taking Care of our First Responders and Their Families!

The Public Safety Outpatient Counselor provides professional behavioral health services designed to decrease the impact of behavioral health disorders and other emotional disturbances within the first responder population. The primary responsibilities include consultation, triage, assessment and treatment; which requires the application of specialized knowledge in the area of first responders and the appropriate behavioral health interventions for this population.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of the first responder population. 

  • Excellent oral and written skills to communicate in a professional manner with clients.

  • Strong clinical skills to diagnose and treat behavioral health issues.

  • Specific training and understanding of various trauma theories. 

  • Ability to travel to various local locations when necessary.

  • Ability to identify when certain accommodations may be beneficial to the client - FMLA, Industrial Injuries, HB2502, modified duty.

  • Knowledge of and ability to provide various CISM interventions. 

  • Attention to detail and being able to problem solve and work independently.

  • Ability to work within an electronic medical record system (EMR)

Duties:

  • Carry a full time caseload. 

  • Provide onsite consultation, triage, wellness checks, CISM interventions, and post critical incident evaluations when needed. 

  • Determines client service needs by assessing individual client’s level of functioning, behavioral health symptoms and history.

  • Determine diagnosis and treatment needs and develop individualized client treatment plans.

  • Work collaboratively with all team members of the Public Safety and Outpatient team in order to ensure clinical needs are met of all clients. 

  • Provide referrals, coordinate access to higher levels of care, and case management. 

  • Work closely with external Public Safety Agency teams. 

  • Continuously assess and determine the degree of Danger to Self (DTS) behavior or intention and the degree of Danger to Others (DTO) behavior or intention of the patient.

  • Complete all appropriate documentation and follow documentation timelines. 

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Current, unrestricted license issued by the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners: LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker), LMSW (Licensed Master of Social Worker), LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor), LAC (Licensed Associate Counselor), Ph.D (Doctor of Philosophy), Psy.D (Doctor of Psychology). 

  • Documented post-master’s experience for two (2) years, including experience within the past 24 months providing Outpatient counseling services, or an equivalent of experience, skills and education. Appropriate reference checks by letter or telephone as requested. Background check, as required by state.

Other Items:

  • Must comply with training and supervision requirements during the first 90 days of employment, and throughout employment.

  • All licensed, certified or registered staff will be monitored regarding restrictions, Medicare/Medicaid sanctions, criminal violations, subsequent malpractice actions and any settlement made on behalf of the practitioner.

  • Provide evidence of professional liability insurance coverage in the amount acceptable, minimum $1/$3 million

  • All CPR clinical staff are required to apply for, and/or present and maintain, within 7 days of hire, a Class One Fingerprint Clearance card. If application is necessary, a copy must be submitted to include in the personnel file until card is received. Also to provide a copy of the card upon any renewal. This includes any volunteers, interns and administrative staff positions as needed.

  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance must be maintained at all times. Must maintain a current CPR/First Aid card.

  • All expirables to be renewed and submitted 30 days prior to expiration date. It is the duty of the licensee to keep all expirables active and current and report any mandated change to the Board immediately.
