SALARY: $30,687.34 - $57,045.14 dependent upon education (May change based on collective bargaining process)

JOB SUMMARY 

Instructs career and technical education classes in Health Science Occupations courses as part of the Career and Technical Education Program. Designs and implements an effective and appropriate career-technical educational program for assigned students to prepare them for employment; works collaboratively with pupils, parents, support staff, administrators, health organizations, agencies and community groups to enhance the training and employment opportunities for students. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES

• Teaches occupational knowledge and skills in areas such as, safety, leadership, personal development and career preparation subjects as assigned.
• Plan effective and appropriate daily lessons and unit plans incorporating effective health occupations standards as well as school wide initiatives (i.e. AVID Schoolwide strategies, reading and writing across the curriculum, etc).
• Effectively collaborate with CTE instructor team.
• Coordinates the placement, supervision, and evaluation of students on internship and cooperative work experience sites as assigned.
• Matches activities and materials to individual and group skills and needs.
• Designs or selects and uses planned sequences of instruction for the development of occupational skills and knowledge.
• Ensures that instructional activities and materials are clearly related to District, school, program, course goals and objectives.
• Provides instruction based on designated instructional materials or develops alternate materials in prescribed District format.
• Establishes and maintains an orderly and supportive classroom and laboratory environment in which students are actively participating and show respect for one another and for the teacher.
• Maximizes time when students are paying attention and working on tasks directly related to the subject matter.
• Conducts interesting and well-paced classes using a variety of instructional techniques, strategies, and materials appropriate to the lesson.
• Makes sure students understand what to do before undertaking assignments.
• Assesses, keeps track of, and provides feedback promptly and often to students on their progress and assignments.
• Uses a grading system that is consistent, fair and supportable.
• Selects and requisitions required instructional equipment, supplies, and materials.
• Ensures that materials and equipment are properly used, maintained, and stored, and that inventory records are accurate and current.
• Supervises students in out-of classroom activities as assigned.
• Actively partner with local Community College to create seamless transitions for students.
• Participates cooperatively in school, area and district-wide activities.
• Follows specified standards, policies, and procedures of the building and District.
• Adhere to all standards established by Teachers Standards and Practices Commissions for Competent and Ethical Educator.
• Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Marginal duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Serve on building and District and school committees and councils.
2. Report issues to authorities as necessary, such as animal control, suspicious activity etc.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position may supervise volunteers, student aides, and educational assistants. All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

• Oregon Teaching Certificate valid for the assignment, special Career and Technical Education Endorsement or other licensure satisfying TSPC requirements for teaching.
• Demonstrated ability to relate positively with students, teachers, administrators, employers, parents and the community.
• Demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for employment in health occupations.

 Additional Qualifications

• Career and Technical Education endorsement in Health CTE endorsement or 2000 hours of industry experience to apply towards attaining a Health CTE endorsement.

The work environment is in a school that combines standard office setting including standard office equipment (fax, copier, phone, computer, 10-key, etc.) with the standard school setting.   1. Keep the confidence entrusted in the profession as it relates to confidential information concerning a student and the student's family;
  2. Refrain from exploiting professional relationships with any student for personal gain, or in support of persons or issues; and
  3. Maintain an appropriate professional student-teacher relationship by:
