CSEA is Hiring a Director of Education and Leadership Development Near Albany, NY
STARTING SALARY: $105,880 JOB SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Executive Assistant to the President, this position has direct responsibility for the operation of the CSEA Education and Training Department, including the design and implementation of all labor education programs for elected leadership, activists and rank and file membership as well as member engagement components. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Manages the overall design, development, administration and implementation of all labor education programs offered at the Local/Unit, Region and statewide levels by CSEA to elected leadership, activists, rank and file members as well as targeted unorganized workers. 2. Directs a staff of Labor Education Specialists, including their on-the-job training, ongoing staff development, work responsibilities, work processes, project management, staff scheduling and performance evaluations. 3. Manages/assist with the design and development of the Annual Delegates Meeting, Women’s Conference, Safety and Health Conference and other statewide initiatives that involve education and presentation of information to elected leadership, activist, rank and file membership, and others. Coordination of above with CSEA Officers and Department Directors, and appropriate Statewide Committees (i.e. Education, Women’s, etc.) 4. Coordinates the design and delivery of Region and Local/Unit labor education programs such as Region Conferences and Presidents’ Workshops. 5. Works with the Director of Member Engagement to design and deliver educational components that support member engagement on a region, local and unit level. 6. Directs the design and production of instructional and informational materials for labor education programs within the Union, including print, video and audio materials in cooperation with other CSEA Departments and determines the distribution system for delivery of these products to targeted audiences in a timely and cost effective manner. 7. Presents Workshops to large and small groups using appropriate formats and materials. 8. Coordinates with the appropriate departments and organizations (i.e. AFSCME, AFL-CIO, Cornell University, National Coalition Building Institute, Constituency Groups, etc.) to bring a national labor education focus to all representation, internal and external organizing and union-building activities within the Union. 9. Oversees arrangements associated with education programs, including: negotiating and developing contracts with outside entities/presenters, coordinating logistical needs (room set-up, A/V, material, etc.), facilitating participants registration and attendance. 10. Assess and design comprehensive training programs to develop and enhance leadership skills of statewide, region, local/unit leaders and activist. 11. Develops and maintains a course catalogue of workshop offerings. 12. Prepares reports of department activities to the CSEA Board of Directors. 13. Serves as CSEA’s Co-Affiliate leader with oversight of scheduling and delivery of diversity initiatives to CSEA leadership and members. 14. Other duties as assigned. 15. Travel is required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in labor or industrial relations, public administration, education or business administration or a related field. AND Four years of experience in the field of labor or industrial relations, public or personnel administration or directing/teaching at a university or college labor studies program; two years of which must have been in a higher level administrative capacity involving planning, organizing, or directing a comprehensive education/training program covering one or more occupational fields. OR An acceptable combination of experience, education and training as determined by CSEA. NOTE: Candidates must possess a valid New York State driver’s license and have an automobile available for business use in order to be appointed.
