Job Description
CSI Recruiting is working with a small and innovative Dallas-based oil company, assisting them to hire an experienced Upstream Oil & Gas Operations Accountant. The Operations Accountant, working directly with the company's senior leadership, will be responsible for managing all aspects of the accounting process related to the production and exploration of oil and gas reserves. This includes monitoring financial transactions, preparing financial reports, managing budgets, and reconciling accounts. Additionally, the operations accountant will be responsible for analyzing production data, ensuring accurate measurement, and reporting of oil or gas volumes, and calculating royalties and taxes owed to government agencies. The company uses P2 Excalibur - Experience with Excalibur is STRONGLY preferred.
Requirements
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBLITIES:
  • Monitor financial transactions related to oil and gas revenues and expenses, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
  • Reconcile accounts receivable and payable and other general ledger accounts, resolving any discrepancies in a timely and effective manner.
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations for accounts assigned and ensure proper presentation of account balance.
  • Calculate royalties, severance tax, and other production-related taxes owed to government agencies and ensure timely and accurate payment.
  • Perform production accounting activities, including analyzing production data, monitoring production volumes, and preparing production reports.
  • Ensure accurate measurement and reporting of oil or gas volumes, working closely with production staff and third-party measurement companies.
  • Collaborate with other departments such as engineering, land, and marketing to ensure financial data is accurately reflected in the company's systems.
  • Help complete monthly analyses by comparing actual vs. budget/forecasted balances and research accounting transactions to confirm accuracy, validity, and understanding of financial activity.
  • Assist in the forecasting and analysis of project and departmental costs for monthly presentation through the use in forecasting database and system.
  • Perform month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entry preparation, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Lead, mentor and motivate junior accountants or financial analysts, providing guidance, support, and training to enhance skills and the team's performance.
  • Help in identifying training needs and assist in ongoing coaching and development opportunities for team members to improve their accounting and industry knowledge.
  • Assist upper management in resolving complex accounting issues or challenges that arise in upstream operations.

  • Utilizes exceptional critical thinking skills to analyze complex problems, assess various perspectives, and develop innovative solutions that drive informed decision-making and enhance overall organizational efficiency.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Business, or Finance, or an equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in accounting, closing, reporting, and hands-on accounting systems.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in upstream oil and gas
  • Proficient in Microsoft 360 products (Outlook, Excel, Word) required with advanced skills in Excel in particular.
  • Excalibur, or other P2 system experience preferred.
