About CSUDH Toro Auxiliary Partners:
The California State University, Dominguez Hills Toro Auxiliary Partners ("TAP") is a non-profit organization and was incorporated in 1968 as a partner of California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) to provide supplemental services that enhance core academic programs, which are an integral part of the University's educational mission. CSUDH is a highly diverse metropolitan university primarily serving the South Bay area of Los Angeles County. CSUDH is one of twenty-three campuses that comprise the California State University System.
About the Position: Graduate Student Research Mentor for CSUDH McNair Scholars Program
The McNair Scholars Program at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) is seeking two Graduate Student Research Mentors (one in STEM or Health Sciences and one in Arts, Humanities, or Social Science) to provide writing assistance to scholars engaged in research opportunities and guide scholars as they apply to graduate programs and funding opportunities. Ideal candidates should be currently enrolled doctoral students in a research-based PhD program who are passionate about mentoring undergraduates. The position is for 1-2 semesters, renewable up to 2 years.
Position Details:

• Number of Positions Available: 2
• Part-time, Non-Exempt. Hourly Rate: $27.00
• Appointment Duration: 2-semester appointment, renewable for one additional year
• Work Schedule: 12 hours per week scheduled during Monday-Thursday, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
• Work Location: In-person on the CSUDH Campus in Carson, CA

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide one-on-one or group guidance to McNair participants through applications for research opportunities, graduate programs, and funding opportunities.
• Assist McNair Scholars with academic writing (using APA, MLA, etc.) and presentations for research projects.
• Maintain accurate records of student interactions and progress toward student outcomes.
• Conduct three workshops and training sessions per semester on research-related topics such as graduate school success, software tools, and academic presentation skills.
• Create occasional content for scholar alums completing graduate programs via email, newsletter, or social media engagement.

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled student in a research-based PhD program

• Commitment to undergraduate research and mentorship of diverse students

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Ability to provide constructive feedback and guidance on academic writing and research presentations
• Excellent critical thinking, interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365
