Director, Financial Reporting
Job Summary
Energy company located downtown Houston is looking for a Director of Financial Reporting to join their team.
The Director is responsible for managing a team whose main function is the timely and accurate external financial reporting for an energy company in Houston.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities and Requirements:
Lead external GAAP financial reporting and filing processes for quarterly, annual and certain periodic reports, including drafting of financial statements, footnotes, MD&A and completion of GAAP checklists
Manage and mentor & coach direct reports, identifying professional development needs and training opportunities, and performance evaluations
Work with all stakeholders to review the reporting impacts of complex financial transactions
Review of stand-alone financial statements as prepared by the business accounting teams
Lead the implementation of new and existing accounting literature to ensure compliance with GAAP accounting standards as well as SEC regulations, including preparation of documentation for appropriate accounting and disclosure of complex business transactions and events
Responsible for coordinating with FP&A and Investor Relations to ensure consistency of information disclosed in earnings decks, press releases etc.
Support various aspects of the external audit, including managing audit requests to ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements
Document internal control procedures and assist internal audit with periodic testing to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Act and controls pertaining to financial reporting process
At least ten years of experience demonstrating a working knowledge of accounting and reporting principles
Prior experience leading teams responsible for SEC reporting
Strong understanding of US GAAP and SEC reporting rules and regulations
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel, and computer savvy with respect to general ledger and reporting software
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelors’ degree in accounting
Hybrid worker, 3 days in office
Travel may be required
Public accounting experience and CPA required preferred.
Prior experience working with SAP, HFM or other consolidation systems, and Wdesk preferred
Six years SEC reporting experience preferred.
