Requirements and skills:

• Valid State of Alabama Bus Driver's CDL license
• Clean driving record
• Must be able to pass DOT physical, including drug test
• Ability to read and write English and perform basic math skills
• Ability to follow oral and written directions, talk and hear
• Effective interpersonal skills
• Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as state, federal, and local law and the Board may require

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Transports disabled students and other passengers to and from school safely and punctually
• Works cooperatively with assigned bus aide in the loading and/or unloading of disabled students
• Lifts and/or carries special needs students as needed
• Ensures all bus rules are adhered to by ALL passengers
• Works cooperatively administration and parents in handling any problems that may arise in transporting students
• Performs pre-trip inspections of bus and advises supervisor of any defects.
• Operates school bus in a safe and courteous manner
• Obeys all traffic laws, rules, and regulations
• Keeps inside of bus clean (as specified in bus rules)
• Maintains proper certification by attending workshops and professional development courses
• Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism and ethics
• Works cooperatively with the Board, Superintendent, administrators, certified and non certified personnel, parents, and students.
• Adhere to all Cullman City Schools board policies and Transportation Department Procedures
• Completes all paperwork as required by Transportation Supervisor or designee.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)

Physical Requirements:

• Ability with sight (near vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus)
• Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds and to push or pull up to ninety (90) pounds such as students in wheelchairs
• Ability to reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, squat, crouch, and kneel
  

  Background Check Required:

  • (Ala. Code§§ 16-22A-5) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

  Additional Details:

  • Position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Cullman City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by internal applicants by means of transfer
  • Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial year of employment if hired after September 30.
