Culpeper County School District is Hiring an ESL Transition Program Coordinator, 11 months Near Culpeper, VA

JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Director of ESL & FRC, the ESL Transition Program Coordinator, will oversee the High School Transition Program for ELs and work with high school administrators and staff to support students with limited and/or interrupted formal education (SLIFE) who remain in high school. Work hours: 9:00am to 5:30pm at the CCPS Family Resource Center.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

  • Oversee program requirements and assist with growing the program based on the needs of the ESL population;
  • Ensure Title III compliance (parent notification, LIEP services, modifications, etc);
  • Manage division Powerschool requirements for students in the program (attendance, log entries, etc.);
  • Oversee compliance to division ELLevation requirements for students in the program;
  • Manage student discipline to ensure that students follow CCPS Code of Conduct requirements;
  • Respond to parent questions and concerns regarding the program;
  • Oversee arrival and dismissal of students daily;
  • Oversee attendance and truancy for students in the program;
  • Serve as a substitute for the ESL transition teacher as needed;
  • Monitor student achievement data;
  • Conduct family engagement workshops and meetings;
  • Work with the ESL Instructional Specialists to develop and implement curriculum for the program and make changes as needed;
  • Oversee the use of instructional technology and student chromebook use;
  • Develop personalized learning plans with each student and their family;
  • Connect with division and community partners to create real-life high-quality work-based learning (HQWBL) experiences for ELs in the Transition Program and in high school who are struggling to meet the HQWBL and/or credential for graduation;
  • Collaborate with high school administrators and staff to support their SLIFE students not attending the Transition Program;
  • Work with staff at the Family Resource Center to enroll new, qualified students;
  • Forge relationships with adult learning organizations (Culpeper Literacy Council, Germanna Community College, Piedmont Regional Adult & Career Education Program, etc.);
  • Collaborate with Division and school staff; and
  • Performs other assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • Bachelor’s Degree;
  • Virginia License in school administration preferred;
  • Three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience;
  • Experience in working with English Language Learners;
  • Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Bilingual preferred;
  • Knowledge of current literacy instructional trends and methodologies.
  • Evidence of teacher leadership.
  • Ability to implement organization and documentation of data and educational resources.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationship with all employees and the public.
  • Ability to communicate openly and effectively with students, parents, community patrons, staff, and administration as a positive representative of Culpeper County Public Schools.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is typically performed in the central office and throughout the division: frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 40 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds may be required. Other limited physical activities are required. Travel to schools throughout the division and central office is required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work environment exposes the employee to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members, administrators, and parents is required. Contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary. Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all CCPS employees. To ensure adequate staffing, positive employee morale, and to meet expected productivity standards throughout the organization, employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.


EVALUATION:

The supervisor will evaluate performance on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
