Position Overview

Position(s) is located in the Adult Services Section.

Potential for Telework/Remote options may be considered based on training, quality assurance, performance, and/or business needs.

Examples of Duties

Social worker is responsible for case managing a large diverse adult population; frail disabled adults as well as some with mentally challenged diagnoses. Social worker must have the ability to interface effectively with ward/family members; addressing areas of concern and implementing an action plan when it is indicated. The social worker must possess the ability to consult regularly with facility administrators/staff, legal, medical personnel and ancillary community service agencies. The social worker must have basic knowledge of the mental health system and how to attain services. The social worker is required to complete mandated home visits to ensure that the ward is in a safe environment and their needs are being met adequately. The social worker is responsible for determining that the ward is placed in an appropriate facility and their rights are not being violated. The social worker often works closely with the Adult Protective Service / Adult Home Specialist. The social worker may perform some of the duties of the Adult Protective Services worker as required. The social worker consults with supervisors when it is deemed necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements - Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work; Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative (Child Welfare positions only); Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year directly related experience; Master's degree in a human services field and one year of directly related experience; Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years directly related experience; Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experienc

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities - Thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices, and their application to complex casework, groupwork, and community problems. Considerable knowledge of a wide range of medical, behavioral, and/or psychosocial problems and their treatment theory. Considerable knowledge of family and group dynamics and a range of intervention techniques, governmental and private organizations, and resources in the community, laws, regulations, and policies which govern the program. General knowledge of the methods and principles of casework supervision and training. In certain settings, considerable knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes and their treatment as they relate to decisions regarding clinical interventions and appropriate therapies based on medical or psychological diagnosis. Skill in establishing rapport with a client and in applying techniques or assessing psychosocial, behavioral, and psychological aspects of client’s problems. Ability to supervise, train, or instruct lower-level social workers, students, or interns in the program. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of case load and their families, as well as civic, legal, medical, social, and religious organizations. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively.

Law enforcement background check is required.
Has or is able to obtain a valid North Carolina Drivers License.
This position will be required to assist in emergency and/or disaster situations.
The Cumberland County Department of Social Services has a dress code policy that must be adhered to. This policy includes specific guidelines related to tattoos and body piercing.
