POSITION SUMMARY
The Resident Peer Counselor provides education and structured group and individual peer counseling to residents and/or families impacted by substance use disorders. This position identifies problems and solutions and develops a foundation for the recovery process through peer counseling and works closely with the Resident Peer Care Manager and Program Director.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include some or all of the following:
1. Assists with welcoming the resident into the Still Waters’ program, including orientation to the environment, program, and resident community as assigned.
2. In conjunction with the resident and Residential Peer Care Manager, provides ongoing assessment of resident needs and issues, working collaboratively to create plans of action to address such problems, including family, referral sources, etc., as appropriate.
3. Facilitates peer counseling groups daily.
4. Facilitates individual peer counseling, as well as family peer counseling as appropriate.
5. Provides education, in groups and individually, relative to addiction and recovery to residents and families.
6. In conjunction with the Resident Peer Care Manager, communicates with referral sources and families as needed.
7. In conjunction with peer counseling team, assists in monitoring and managing resident community.
8. Assists with resident’s care with the various off-site providers for medical, psychiatric, or other social needs, including transportation as appropriate.
9. Facilitates transportation of residents to off-site 12 Step meetings and activities as assigned.
10. Utilizing CPI, intervenes in crises to deescalate situation and resolve crises, using events as entries into recovery process for residents
11. Performs CPR and First Aid as needed
12. Documents pertinent activities in resident record
13. Participates in daily and weekly team meetings and milieu review
14. Represents the Still Waters program and Cumberland Heights at a variety of community and professional meetings as needed, including presentations and marketing/ business development activities as assigned.
15. Participates in quality improvement activities as directed.
16. Ensures that a welcoming, safe and healing environment is maintained for each resident and family throughout the continuum of care.
17. Recommends ways to improve the quality and delivery of services.
18. Ensures proper handling and distribution of company funds.
19. Maintains confidentiality of company and resident information.
20. Reacts productively to change.
21. Performs other duties as assigned.
