POSITION DETAILS

The City University of New York (CUNY) seeks an experienced Proposal Writer for the office of University Advancement. CUNY is the nation’s leading urban public university serving more than 500,000 degree-seeking students. The University comprises of 25 institutions: 11 senior colleges, seven community colleges, William E. Macaulay Honors College at CUNY, CUNY Graduate Center, Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies, CUNY School of Law, CUNY School of Professional Studies and CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy. The office of University Advancement strives to develop new fundraising streams, forging relationships with corporate and philanthropic foundations, and private donors.

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement, the Grant Proposal Writer partners with CUNY Colleges in developing strategies to encourage foundation and corporate support for their programs. The incumbent will also work with the Advancement Staff, College Presidents, Provosts, Deans, Department Chair, Staff and Faculty in identifying and developing relationships with donors.

Key duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to following:

  • Strategizes, researches and prepares grant proposals.

  • Advises and provides Colleges with proposal writing assistance.

  • Liaises with College Presidents, staff, and faculty to assist with the Colleges proposal writing campaigns.

  • Prepares proposals for multi-College approaches.

  • Responds to specific Proposal Writer-related requests from faculty and staff of the Colleges.

  • Builds a proposal library and manages information in database and spreadsheets.

  • Organizes and prepares briefings on proposal writing.

  • Performs related projects as assigned by the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement.

Note: Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work on-site in the office.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum:

Bachelor’s degree and six years’ related experience required.

Preferred:

  • Six years of experience as Grant Proposal Writer, or related experience, preferably within an educational institution

  • Demonstrated knowledge and mastery of tools used for proposal writing

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, managerial, and organizational skills

  • Strong attention to detail; ability to multitask

  • Interest in working as a member of a team of Grant Proposal Writing and marketing professionals

  • Commitment to providing the highest level of support and assistance to the 25 Colleges of the City University of New York

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Manages a wide range of project activities contributing to the success of a dynamic, high-profile University grant and research program.

  • Serves as primary liaison with University offices, College departments and external organizations on grant activities, projects and programs, guiding faculty and staff in identifying funding sources, developing proposals, conducting negotiations and administering awards

  • Creates and implements a grants management infrastructure to maximize efficiencies in processes across the University

  • Researches, identifies and cultivates funding sources that support the University's strategic goals; ensures compliance with funding agency formats and requirements, and University guidelines and policies concerning grants, contracts, and/or gifts

  • Develops, writes, edits, and prepares grant proposals, including letters of inquiry, pre-proposals and full proposals to prospective organizations

  • Collects information on, monitors, and reports on project activities, milestones, and results; prepares and monitors budgets and expenditures; may manage staff as required

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The salary range is $96,602 - $100,329; commensurate with qualifications, education and experience.
