Primary Purpose:

Provides leadership in the development, implementation, coordination and evaluation of the district’s secondary curriculum to include the effective and efficient operation of the curriculum and professional development needs of the department. Particular emphasis shall be on the articulation of the program between the middle schools and high schools.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Certification Requirements

  • Master’s degree
  • Valid Texas Mid-Management / Principal Certification
  • Current certification in Instructional Leadership Development (ILD) and Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) certified within 90 days.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.

Special Knowledge/Skills

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years administrative experience, and
  • Minimum of eight (8) years secondary teaching experience required

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

(The following statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned and should not be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, efforts, or working conditions that may be assigned or skills that may be required.)

  • Serves as leader and general resource person in matters relating to secondary curriculum, development and evaluation
  • Facilitates, implements, and assists with the development of a standards-based curriculum in all content areas at the elementary level
  • Coordinates and implements the professional development program for secondary schools
  • Coordinates the secondary instructional program in a manner consistent with district vision, goals, and objectives
  • Reviews, researches, prepares, and disseminates information pertaining to trends in curriculum development, extended learning programs, and intervention programs
  • Develops process and timelines for the implementation of standards-based accountability to reflect legislative and state expectations
  • Facilitates the development of the content of grade 6-12 multiple assessments to align with the district’s approved curriculum and academic content standards
  • Analyzes, reports, and interprets student performance data and makes recommendations for instructional improvement
  • Coordinates the sharing of best practices and curriculum across district schools
  • Develops and monitors budgets for operation of assigned programs and services
  • Coordinates the process of textbook evaluation, selection, and adoption oat the elementary level, in alignment with the elementary instructional program
  • Visits secondary schools regularly to ensure high levels of visibility and effective communication
  • Provides leadership and expertise in guiding and advising District task forces and advisory committees and groups
  • Oversee the development and delivery of curriculum and instructional programs that incorporate district goals and support student achievement
  • Participate in the district-level decision-making process to establish and review the district’s goals and objectives and major classroom instructional programs. Ensure that goals and objectives are developed using effective collaborative processes and problem-solving techniques
  • Monitor and reevaluate instructional programs on an ongoing basis using input from teachers and principals, applied research, and student data to determine effectiveness and improve outcomes. Recommend changes and adjustments where appropriate
  • Ensure that the necessary time, resources, materials, and technology to support accomplishment of education goals are available
  • Collaborate with curriculum specialists, principals, teachers, and other instructional staff to develop, maintain, and revise curriculum documents based on a systematic review and analysis
  • Engage instructional staff in evaluating and selecting instructional tools and materials to meet student learning needs
  • Actively support the efforts of others to achieve district goals and objectives and campus performance objectives (academic excellence indicators)
  • Oversee staff development programs and provide effective activities that support instructional programs, incorporate input from teachers and principals, and are consistent with the district’s mission
  • Participate in the implementation of the designated teacher appraisal system
  • Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in curriculum and instruction areas
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required
  • Develop and administer the curriculum and instruction budget based on documented program needs and ensure that operations are cost effective and funds are managed prudently
  • Prepare, review, and revise job descriptions in curriculum and instruction department
  • Evaluate job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness
  • Select, train, evaluate, and supervise staff and make recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline and dismissal
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with principals, teachers, staff, parents, and community members
  • Articulate the district’s mission, instructional philosophy, and curriculum implementation strategies to the community and solicit its support in realizing district’s mission
  • Demonstrate awareness of district community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs
  • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement
  • Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervise and evaluate the performance of staff assigned to campus including assistant principal(s), teacher(s), counselor(s), librarian, instructional aides, clerical support staff and auxiliary personnel.

EQUIPMENT USED:

  • Office equipment – personal computer, printer, calculator, multi-line telephone, software programs and peripherals, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position.
  • Communication equipment – radio communication equipment, cellular telephone
  • Video monitoring equipment

Environmental Factors:

  • Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination, vibration
  • Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.), work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces, work alone, work prolonged or irregular hours.
