Salary: $100,000 - $120,000 per year

THIS ROLE: 

Curtin Maritime is looking for innovative thinkers who have high accountability and ownership and take pride in their work. This is a great opportunity for a mechanical dredge Captain, Chief Engineer, or Dredge Manager looking to transition to a shoreside support position, this experience is highly desirable but not an absolute requirement. The preferred candidate will have at least 10 years of experience in an engineering position, or a similar mechanical aptitude, on mechanical dredges, marine derricks, or large tugboats and must have hands-on mechanical skills on various marine equipment. This is a hybrid position with the majority of time spent on the dredge/project site, shipyard, and regional/home office. This position requires a rotating schedule, likely working 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Support dredge equipment package (mechanical dredge, scows, drag barge, support vessels) along with Dredge Captain and Vessel Engineers & Engineering/Yard Support Staff (Shoreside Mechanics/Welders) to maximize efficient operations and run time.
  • Support implementation of Engineering policies and procedures
  • Purchasing related to normal vessel operations
  • Enforcement of Helm Connect related to engineering tasks
  • Assist as directed with all Engineering and Marine Transportation department needs
  • Coordinate assigning tasks to vessel engineers
  • Primary Point of Contact for Dredge Captain and Vessel Engineers
  • Enforce Tasks are completed in a timely manner
  • Ensure Parts Requests are completed and delivered to the vessel
  • Assist in the management of work plans for the dredge equipment package through Helm Connect
  • Attend vessel shipyard/drydock periods, report on progress and budgets
  • Assist in mobilization and outfitting efforts of dredge equipment
  • Enforce Engineering policies and procedures for all vessels to maintain all dredging equipment to Curtin Maritime’s high standards
  • Actively participate in training programs
  • Liaison with purchasing department
  • Review requisitions relating to engineering before Vice President - Dredging approval
  • Assist in determining vendors and tracking specific parts
  • Assist in locating rental support equipment when owned equipment is unavailable
  • Assist in the acquisition of new assets
  • Ensure all planned and completed tasks are input in Helm Connect
  • Ensure all staff are utilizing Helm Connect properly
  • Significant travel will be required for this position to attend vessels working on various project sites, as well as managing shipyard projects.

WHO YOU ARE:

Certifications and Other Requirements

  • At least 10 years of related experience in an engineering position, or a similar mechanical aptitude, on mechanical dredges, marine derricks, or large tugboats
  • Hands-on mechanical skills on various marine equipment is required
  • TWIC Card

Physical Aptitudes

  • The employee must meet physical requirements including but not limited to, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing up/down ladders and stairs, negotiating uneven and moving surfaces
  • Able to work in confined spaces and carry heavy tools for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift, and carry heavy items, climb onto barges, and up and down ladders.
  • Must be comfortable entering tanks and other confined spaces
  • Must be able to work in difficult conditions with exposure to all weather conditions (rain, ice, snow, wind, heat, etc.)
  • Must be comfortable working aboard boats and barges using heavy lines, winches, and mechanical tools for repairs
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work when exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels, and potentially hazardous equipment.
