What You Will Be Doing
The Senior Tax Specialist is responsible for federal and state tax compliance and tax planning activities
Essential Responsibilities

• Prepares state and local tax returns including premium, sales & use and income.
• Works directly with state and local tax authorities to resolve return issues.
• Maintains the tax compliance calendar for the insurance companies.
• Assists in the preparation of various components of federal income tax returns.
• Assists in the preparation of Statutory and GAAP financial statement tax provisions.
• Researches federal and state tax matters. Makes recommendations based on analysis.
• Assists in special projects or reports (e.g. IRS audits, state audits, mergers and acquisitions).
• Assists in analyzing tax consequences of actual and proposed transactions and makes appropriate recommendations.
• Makes recommendations to improve efficiency and consistency across tax related functions.

• Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.
• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Strong understanding of tax accounting principles, practices and procedures.
• Superior verbal and written skills including the ability to articulate complex tax principles in a compelling manner to a diverse set of recipients.
• Ability to work independently and under tight deadlines.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and internal and external contacts.
• Strong project management skills.
• Strong PC skills including MS Word and Excel and other relevant department software

What You Need for this Position

• Bachelor's Degree required.
• Master's Degree in taxation preferred.
• 5 years of experience in public accounting tax and/or corporate tax department. required.
• State and local tax experience required.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
