Dakota Electric is hiring an Associate Financial Analyst to join our team in Farmington, MN!

OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Director of Financial Planning, Analysis & Regulatory, the Associate Financial Analyst will join a team of experienced analysts to focus several financial projects, including (but not limited to):

  • Financial modeling
  • Month end variance analysis
  • Treasury and banking operations
  • Budgeting and forecasting

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in the month end close process, providing complete and accurate financial analysis of reports and statements.
  • Provide proactive, clear and actionable recommendations and alternatives to management.
  • Comply with established Dakota Electric Association safety and operating rules, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Be responsible for reporting any un-safe practices and/or hazards to a supervisor, manager, or Vice President.
  • Be committed to and actively involved in Dakota Electric’s safety programs, initiatives, and performance measures.
  • Assist with coordinating the development of the annual budget for DEA.
    • Administration of budget system
    • Act as key resource for cost center managers and business leaders
    • Prepare consolidated budget results
  • Prepare regulatory filings, financial models, and ad hoc analysis.
    • Work cross functionally with stakeholders
    • Develop clear and compliant results
    • Organize and document
  • Complete the monthly accounting necessary to comply with the regulatory requirements of DEA.
    • Track actual results against budget as assigned for both general ledger accounts and projects and analyze and report variances.
    • Prepare journal entries as needed
    • Reconcile specific accounts as needed
  • Continually analyze accounting procedures, records and reports for accuracy and usefulness to the organization and recommend identified changes to management.
  • Support treasury functions of the organization.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, businesses administration or a related-discipline

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in accounting and financial functions
  • Analytical experience
  • Experience with MS Excel
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • The ability to work independently
  • Problem solving skills

WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal department office conditions and working hours apply (40 hours/week). Occasional overtime may be required. Maintain a good working relationship with co-workers in all departments to successfully implement accounting policies and procedures. Must be able to cope with stressful situations that interrupt the normal workday schedule.
