DANIEL BOONE AREA SCHOOL DISTRICTPosition Description
POSITION TITLE: District Security Officer
REPORTS TO: Assistant to the Superintendent
POSITION GOAL: Provide Security Leadership and protective services for Daniel Boone Area School District (DBASD) including policing the grounds and protecting personnel, students, visitors, and equipment as needed. Additionally, the officer assists the building administration in the enforcement of the Student Code of Conduct. Aids in police investigations when necessary; crisis intervention as warranted.
Salary Range $60,000-$70,000
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Direct supervisor of the DBASD Security Department which includes contracted safety & security services personnel
  • Responsible for the budget of the DBASD Security Department
  • Assist with district’s truancy initiatives by conducting home visitations
  • Assist administration with the day-to-day supervision of DBASD buildings
  • Assist with safe2say
  • Make district residency checks
  • Monitor DBASD buildings and grounds on a regular basis to provide protection for students, staff, and visitors as well as security for district buildings and building equipment.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Athletics and Activities and/or district administration, responsible for obtaining security personnel for all major district & school building functions (e.g. commencement ceremony), school athletic events and extra-curricular activities.
  • Assist all school district building staff members in a cooperative manner to enforce the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Assist district and school administration in recommending, and carrying out policies dealing with district campuses control and supervision.
  • Implement the directives of the district & building administration which involve the community and government agencies related to the enforcement of the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Serve as the liaison for coordinating referrals, contacts, and activities with law enforcement agencies.
  • Review security measures at district building property and advise on improvements.
  • Act as a resource and present information on law and safety education, substance abuse, and crime prevention.
  • Obtain knowledge of community resources available to assist with student and staff needs.
  • Participate in all school drills and assess and provide feedback for improvement.
  • Serve as a resource for the Safe Schools Committee.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS –District Security Guard
Work Year: Full-time Position, 10 months (180 student days 20 extra days);
8 hr/day.
Physical Demands: Position requires sitting, standing, walking or moving throughout the building and grounds, often for extended periods of the workday.
Sensory Abilities: Must be able to hear (40 decibel loss maximum), verbally communicate and see with near acuity of 20 inches or less and far acuity of 20 feet or more with depth perception, accommodation and field of vision.
Work Environment: Work environment includes inside and outside of the building and may include exposure to adverse conditions such as dust, noise, poor lighting, weather, or heavy equipment.
Temperament: Must be courteous and be able to deal effectively with students

Must be able to work effectively with administration
Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions

Educational Level: High School Graduate, Police, Military or school security experience
Specific Skills: Knowledge of effective school discipline and experience in working with students and their parents. Must be willing to carry a firearm. The person must be organized and be able to work effectively with contractors.
License/Clearance(s): Act 34 - Criminal History Clearance
Act 151 - Child Abuse History Clearance
The person in this position must be a duly appointed school resource officer who is authorized to issue summary citations (specifically but may not be limited to truancy and tobacco violations) for violations of the law or Board policy which take place on school property and detain students until the arrival of local law enforcement when warranted.
The position holder must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation. It is the responsibility of the employee to inform the Assistant to the Superintendent for any and all reasonable accommodation that will be required.
