Job Summary:

The Consumer Insights Manager supports overall business objectives and helps drive growth by providing insights to teams on innovation, brand strategy, consumer behavior, and communications. This person will lead consumer research, market analysis and trends, and be responsible for translating data and information into actionable insight. This is an impactful role that partners with Brand, Sales, Marketing, Product, and Consumer Service teams. The manager will be actively involved in key business unit updates and planning efforts and will provide recommended research actions and expected outcomes intended to resolve issues, identify growth opportunities and lead to fact-based decisions.

Key Interfaces: Brand Managers, Content & Creative Manager, Product Line Manager, Customer Service Manager, Manager of Data & Analytics, Insights Manager, Sales Operations Manager, Digital/Email Specialist

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Marketing, Product, and Sales stakeholders to define global insights needs, learning objectives, key metrics, budgets, schedules, and reporting in support of strategic planning and portfolio management across brand, category, and audience segments
  • Translate consumer data and insights into action, partnering with Brand Managers to inform Brand strategy and Product team to inform category and product development
  • Lead foundational research projects such as brand health tracking, competitive analysis, consumer segmentation and trends, Brand awareness & usage, creative effectiveness, commercial experiences, and to support new product/category innovation and go-to-market strategies
  • Identify consumer research methodologies based on business objectives and project scope, develop research plans, and oversee research design, data collection and centralization
  • Optimize omnichannel personas informed by buyer behavior, preference surveys, and category insights
  • Leverage research data and information to identify actionable business opportunities, gain internal support, and convey recommendations through presentations and reports
  • Guide our Consumer Insights program, leading a cross-functional Consumer Insights Team in the collection, processing, orchestration, and reporting of data
  • Manage external agencies and research platforms to ensure projects are on schedule and within budget
  • Foster a culture of consumer curiosity and data-driven decision making, bringing the voice, needs, and perspective of the consumer to interactions within the business
  • Manage research projects, including identifying objectives, designing research methodology, developing questionnaires and discussion guides, coordinating research stimuli, analyzing research and reporting on findings.
  • Develop learning plans to build key consumer & shopper insights, as well as to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of marketing programs for continual improvement and optimization
  • Conduct thorough and careful analysis of data, gather critical information, and effectively prioritize tasks and projects to deliver quality solutions.
  • Communicate insights from research through reports and presentations to marketing and sales/customer planning teams to ensure clear understanding of information and ensure the integrity and correct interpretation of all market research information.
  • Mine internal/external and primary/secondary sources of data and trends to create insights and to work collaboratively with the marketing and sales/customer planning teams to turn those insights into business building plans.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree. Preferred MBA or master’s degree.
  • Minimum of 4 years in consumer insights and research role in a consumer-facing company, agency, or market research firm.
  • Proficient with innovation and custom research methods, both qualitative and quantitative and experience managing research partners/vendors. Experience with shopper and ecommerce research a bonus.
  • Skilled at synthesizing existing data and new data into actionable findings and holistic strategic business recommendations and perspectives
  • Strong business orientation; strong knowledge of marketing principles and practices, advertising, P&L and syndicated data.
  • Exceptional analytical skills; experience synthesizing multiple data points into a simple story and translating consumer data into actionable insights using charts, modeling, and statistics.
  • Excellent communications and presentation skills (both written and verbal).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with professionalism and flexibility.
  • Ability to establish an independent view while effectively collaborating in decision making.
  • Excellent project management and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including Senior Leadership.
  • Enthusiastic interest in consumer and marketing trends.
  • Ability to tell a compelling story from data
  • Ability to take a strong stand for the voice of the consumer—even when it may be unpopular with the team
  • Strong computer skills with emphasis on PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Motivated, able to handle multiple tasks at once
