Position Purpose:
The Sustainability Program Assistant develops and oversees implementation of programs for the Sustainability Office, especially those focused on leveraging our campus as a lab and community building. The Sustainability Program Assistant plays a critical role in the guidance, mentorship and development of student leaders and in relationship building and collaboration with partners at Dartmouth and beyond.
This Program Assistant will supervise Sustainability Office Internships, helping students identify, and prioritize next steps within projects, provides feedback and training when necessary, and supports students in relationship building on campus to accomplish their goals. The position will support cohesion, community building, and collaboration across student teams and projects. This person will also assess the need for additional support for students' sustainability change-making skills, here at Dartmouth and beyond, and implement programming accordingly.
In alignment with Dartmouth's Commitment to Care, a priority for the Sustainability Office is delivering programming centered around climate hope. Building out programming that builds a sense of optimism will largely be the purview of the Program Assistant, who will organize initiatives around the three antidotes to climate anxiety fundamental to Sustainability Office strategy: rootedness, purpose, and imagination, using the campus as resource.

Description:
Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp: Bachelors or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental studies or related field required.
  • Previous experience organizing events.
  • Experience in the implementation of sustainability initiatives, campus initiatives and/or environmental projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of Dartmouth Sustainability Office student programs, initiatives, and past events.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a fast-paced, innovative team.
  • Excellent ability to prioritize, and to manage multiple projects, and people.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Positive, solution orientation.
  • Ability to exercise tact, discretion and independent judgment.
  • Must have a valid US driver's license and must remain in good standing as a Dartmouth approved driver.

Key Accountabilities
Description:
Climate Hope and Campus as Lab
  • Curate salient programming to increase climate hope in students and other campus stakeholders, structuring efforts around the notions of rootedness, purpose, and imagination.
  • Enable students to develop sustainability changemaking skills by using the campus as a lab/focus.
  • Build systems and mechanisms to engage campus partners including faculty, to take advantage of operational sustainability as a learning opportunity for students.
  • Provide yearly accountability and coordination for Sustainability Office's JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity) plan, with advising from colleagues.
  • Oversee Sustainability Office student interns and group leaders and support effective implementation of student projects by providing guidance, mentorship, training, and relationship building as necessary across the campus.
  • Lead outreach and student participant selection, training, and onboarding and management.
  • Develop programs and events to build cohesion and collaboration across student teams and projects.

  • Support perennial programs like the Moving Sale, EcoCroo as well as events.
  • Creative communications - telling our stories in new and compelling ways to engage a wider audience and invite new people into our community.
  • Support outreach to Dartmouth campus and local community for operationalizing Dartmouth's climate action plan.
  • Design and implement new programs: as assigned, explore opportunities for Sustainability Office program development in new areas in alignment with identified strategic office priorities.

General Office Support
  • Build relationships and work collaboratively with key campus partners.
  • Engage in, and sometimes facilitate, strategic planning discussions about Office growth, strategy, and assessment.
  • Serve as an enthusiastic resource to student, faculty, and staff collaborators.
  • Contribute to innovative ideas that expand Dartmouth's impact in solving sustainability problems.
  • Provide additional support for Sustainability Office communications, events, and administrative tasks including responding to inquiries via email and office phone, booking spaces & catering for events, picking up event supplies, and helping produce content for social media postings and blog posts.
  • Be a positive, solution oriented, supportive and collaborative team member.
