Dartmouth Health is Hiring a Preclinical Research Technician Analyst Near Lebanon, NH

Overview

We are seeking a talented and motivated individual with a Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Engineering, Biophysics, or equivalent, to join our research team. As a Technician/Analyst, you will play a crucial role in advancing our understanding of bacterial biofilms using cutting-edge optical techniques and statistical analysis of the data.

Responsibilities

1. Data Collection:

  • Collect optical coherence tomography (OCT) data from both in vitro and in vivo samples of bacterial biofilms.
  • Ensure accurate and high-quality data acquisition and organized storage of data.

2. Algorithm Development:

  • Develop robust algorithms for segmenting OCT data into distinct components:
    ⚬ Mature and immature biofilm regions.
    ⚬ Biofilm pores.
    ⚬ Noise artifacts
  • Optimize segmentation methods to enhance accuracy and efficiency.

3. Analytical Techniques:

  • Explore advanced analytical techniques relevant to biofilm research:
    ⚬ Utilize dynamical systems analysis to study biofilm dynamics.
    ⚬ Investigate Arnold tongues and oscillations or conical/spiral behavior in biofilm structures.
    ⚬ Apply wavelet transforms to extract relevant features.
    ⚬ Model biofilm growth using statistical distributions.

4. Hardware Recommendations and Implementation:

  • Collaborate with optical engineers and staff scientists to improve OCT hardware systems.
  • Provide recommendations for enhancing system performance, resolution, and sensitivity.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of new OCT systems for applied applications.

5. Problem Solving:

  • Address practical challenges encountered during the quantification of optical properties in biofilms.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to data acquisition, noise reduction, and image artifacts.

6. Interdisciplinary Research:

  • Apply principles of physics to basic science research in microbiology and biofilm growth.
  • Collaborate with microbiologists, biophysicists, and other experts to advance our understanding of biofilm behavior.
  • Work proficiently in a translational lab in compliance with laboratory biosafety regulations
