Job Description

Job Description

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), a non-profit membership organization with its National Headquarters located near the White House, is seeking an experienced accounting professional to join our team.

Our full time Staff Accountant will process bi-weekly payroll and maintain payroll records, prepare monthly journal entries and account reconciliations.

We are looking for a professional who demonstrates a strong sense of ownership, has the ability to execute to keep projects moving to meet internal and external deadlines, and who is highly adaptable with strong problem-solving ability.

This would be an excellent opportunity for someone looking to begin their career in the non-profit sector.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Process bi-weekly payroll and maintain payroll records, including tax reports and deduction payments; will set up appropriate state tax withholdings and state unemployment insurance numbers.
  • Prepares bi-weekly / monthly payments for health and 403(b) plans.
  • Reviews and verifies quarterly tax filings and annual W-2 forms generated by ADP.
  • Prepared journal entries to record each bi-weekly payroll in general ledger; calculates year end accruals.
  • Assists with reconciling and recording credit card transactions for the monthly close.
  • Will be responsible for the data entry of fixed asset purchases.
  • Reconciles donation activities.
  • Prepares monthly sales tax returns and remits sales tax payments.

Position Requirements :

  • High school diploma is required, but an accounting degree or coursework is preferred.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of general accounting/payroll experience or accounting degree/equivalent college coursework is required.
  • Knowledge of payroll laws and practices preferred
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles.
  • Advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, and with various payroll systems.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy; ability to stay organized and successfully meet multiple deadlines.
  • Skilled in identifying and resolving discrepancies, and ability to gather and analyze data effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as well as strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to exhibit a high level of confidentiality.

Benefits:

  • Hiring annual salary range is from $54,000 to $68,000, with the final determination based upon the candidate's overall experience.
  • This position can be considered for hybrid remote work-after onboarding and training.
