The Cosmetic Arts Specialist works collaboratively with the Dean of Workforce and Community Engagement, Division Chair of Salon and Spa Services, faculty/staff, students, and the community for both the day and evening programs to achieve the initiatives of Workforce and Community Engagement. The Cosmetic Arts Specialist reports to the Division Chair, Salon and Spa Services and has the following specific responsibilities:

Provides instructional support, including but not limited to the following:

● Promote college mission, values, and vision

● Maintain daily processes that support the teaching and learning environment and achievement of identified outcomes

● Assist with daily operations of cosmetic arts including front desk functions, deposits, and ordering/receiving supplies for cosmetology and esthetic departments

● Maintain instructional and clinic supply inventory for both cosmetology and esthetics programs.

● Handles communications (answers phone calls, returns voice mail and email in a timely manner) and interoffice forms, notices, events, etc. for faculty/staff

● Leads instruction and training for faculty and students in salon software

● Assist with facilitating communication among members of the cosmetology and esthetics programs and other programs within the school and college

● Assist with orienting faculty, staff, and adjunct faculty on necessary paperwork required for state board compliance

● Maintain compliance with standards and legal requirements in conformance with the general statutes of North Carolina, and the North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Arts; serve as the liaison for the North Carolina Board of Cosmetology

o Assist students with the application processes for examination and licensure processes for NC State Board of Cosmetic Arts

● Maintain time logs for students for cosmetology for NC State Board of Cosmetic Arts records

● Enter project sheet information for each class in cosmetology

● Participate in college efforts to manage enrollment through strategic planning for marketing and recruitment

● Work with marketing to promote cosmetology and esthetic programs

● Participate and involve cosmetic arts in public relations, recruitment, and the development of policies and procedures related to the cosmetic arts programs including admission policies and procedures

● Represent the cosmetic arts programs and Davidson-Davie Community College at local and state events

● Respond to requests for information from students, faculty, staff, and members of the community

● Attend college and school meetings and events

● Obtain and accurately report data as needed

● Assists with maintenance of files, record-keeping, and program-specific documentation

● Supports other areas of the School as determined by priorities and initiatives

● Participates in College committees, school meetings, and events

● Performs other duties as assigned that support the College mission and initiatives

Position Qualifications

● Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution (some college coursework and extensive work experience in customer service, technical and administrative, and data support-related work may be considered with a commitment to complete the degree)

● Skill in the use of computers and commitment to using technology

● Familiarity with MS Office

● Excellent oral and written communication skills

● Strong organizational and time management skills

● Ability to thoroughly assess needs of individuals and exercise good judgment in decision-making

● Ability to work effectively and collegially with others

● Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college

● Effectiveness in the following College organizational competencies:

- Translating College purpose, values, and vision into organizational action

- Collaborating and facilitating

- Creating and innovating

- Anticipating and responding to change

- Providing vision and leadership

● Minimum two years of experience in administrative and data support-related work

● Experience with Colleague System

● Experience in a community college continuing education setting

● Experience with Moodle and online instruction
