Job Objective:
Plan educational programs that will be responsive to each and every student and prepare them for future success. Counsels students to resolve conflicts. Provide academic and non-academic supports to ensure opportunity and access to each and every student.

Minimum Qualifications:
Valid State of Ohio Counselor's License
Valid Pupil Services License from the Ohio Department of Education, registration card accepted
Documentation of a clear criminal record

Responsibilities and Essential Functions of the Position:
1. Consults with staff to identify, implement, and evaluate guidance services.
2. Serves as the PBIS lead for the building. Works collaboratively with the building principal to build and implement PBIS programming. Uses data to evaluate the program and guide decisions.
3. Provides orientation to new students. Facilitates transition plans as needed.
4. Provides opportunities for small group counseling sessions based on student needs.
5. Conducts classroom lessons in support of character education, conflict resolution, PIBS, or other identified building needs.
6. Serves as the lead of the building crisis intervention team. Responds to student crisis quickly and effectively.
7. Implements the counseling standards as defined by the Ohio Department of Education.
8. Implements College and Career Readiness plans and activities. Updates student schedules in DASL and build master schedule for the year.
9. Collaborates with other staff and community agencies to provide families and students support resources.
10. Upholds board policies, follows administrative procedures, and complies with the Employee Code of Conduct. Upholds computer technology acceptable use policies.
11. Promotes a favorable image of the school district.
12. Implements effective pupil behavioral management procedures, including positive behavior intervention supports (PBIS). Maintains high standards and upholds the student conduct code. Utilizes Public School Works to track discipline and rewards.
13. Develops and maintains a positive learning environment. Stimulates student interest. Helps parents and students understand academic and behavioral objectives.
14. Communicates high expectations and shows an active interest in student progress.
15. Counsels students. Helps students develop critical-thinking, problem-solving, and creativity skills.
16. Collaborates with other staff. Shares knowledge and resources that enhance the educational process.
17. Incorporates the effective use of available technology in records management and instructional activities.
18. Helps students take full advantage of the learning environment (e.g., access and proximity to activities, use of adaptive equipment, etc.).
19. Maintains accurate records, including but not limited to student attendance, and behavior and submits reports on time.
20. Respects personal privacy. Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.
21. Effectively uses support personnel to address student concerns (e.g., excessive absences, at-risk behavior, mental/physical health, family/peer relations, etc.).
22. Uses data to make informed decisions.
23. Reports evidence of suspected child abuse as required by law.
24. Watches for student behavior that may indicate a problem (e.g., bullying, teasing, distress, etc.). Intervenes and/or reports concerns to an appropriate administrator. Helps staff address concerns.
25. Makes a referral to the intervention assistance team (for academics and/or behavior) when a need is indicated. Meets mandated deadlines for required paperwork. Works with team members to reach a consensus on a plan for students requiring assistance. Monitors behavioral changes and prescribed interventions.
26. Works collaboratively with building/district leadership teams, departmental teams and grade level teams.
27. Helps prepare and implement Section 504 and Individualized Education Plans (IEP) for classroom students meeting eligibility requirements.
28. Supports an inclusive educational environment. Provides opportunities for students with disabilities to participate in appropriate peer group activities.
29. Schedules home visits when necessary to support program goals.
30. Takes precautions to ensure student safety. Does not leave students unsupervised.
31. Supervises non-classroom activities when assigned.
32. Participates in parent conferences, open houses, and other required school events.
33. Attends and/or supports extra-curricular activities.
34. Participates in meetings and professional growth opportunities as directed, as well as actively pursues professional growth and development.
35. Accepts personal responsibility for decisions and conduct.
36. Wears appropriate work attire and maintains a professional appearance.
37. Strives to develop rapport and serve as a positive role model for others.
38. Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.
