  • About Dayton History:

Dayton History is a private, 501-c-3 non-profit organization that owns and operates numerous historic properties and collections throughout southwest Ohio. The largest is Carillon Historical Park, featuring over 30 buildings and structures telling unique stories about how Dayton changed the world. The Wright Brothers National Museum, Hawthorn Hill, and the Patterson Homestead are also Dayton History owed.


  • Basic Function
    :

This position exists to manage all aspects of Dayton History’s development program. This includes achieving annual fundraising goals through the planning, implementation, and constant improvement of individual and planned gift programs, corporate sponsorship initiatives, foundation and government grant writing, fundraising events, and membership activities. This position works with members of the Dayton History event, member relations, and facility teams, and is the staff liaison to Dayton History’s Development Advisory Council and a variety of special event volunteer committees.

  • Position Responsibilities:
  • Monitor development revenues and expenses with the Accounting Dept., create projections and deliver regular reports to the CEO.
  • Assess current solicitation techniques, processes and systems and make recommendations for improvements that will positively impact donor relations, prospecting, and department efficiency
  • Provide oversight of membership activities. Implement membership campaigns and messaging; oversee management of membership database; ensure results are tracked and reviewed for continuous improvement.
  • Identify potential sponsors and nurture current ones.
  • Develop a prospect list, a sponsorship structure, and keep call packets updated that communicate sponsorship opportunities.
  • Secure sponsors required for budget positive results.
  • Manage grant writing and proposal development to foundations, corporations, and government entities.
  • Work with marketing team to create fundraising materials using clear and compelling needs statements.
  • Manage cultivation and stewardship activities for the organization with past, current, and new contributors.
  • Organize special events to recognize donors and/or recruit new contributors.
  • Manage the Annual Fund Campaign and increase support through enhanced and targeted solicitation.
  • Coordinate the CEO’s schedule for major gift donor meetings.
  • Assist CEO with project and fundraising meetings, and proof all development correspondence for accuracy and clarity.
  • Maintain sponsor files and keep all donor files orderly.
  • Serve as staff liaison to our associate fundraising board (The Bell Board) and other event specific committees, assisting them in planning and executing special fundraising events.
  • Serve as staff liaison to the Development Advisory Council. Prepare for meetings and engage Council members in fundraising initiatives, gather input, fulfill assignments and report activity to the CEO.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualification Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree, in related discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in development for a non-profit organization with a proven track record.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge, or other donor software system, and Windows-based software.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and project management skills.
  • Strong writing skills, proofreading, diligence, and accuracy.
  • Continuous poise, tact, and diplomacy to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment juggling multiple tasks and occasional physical labor.
  • Must demonstrate professional work ethic, integrity, flexibility, leadership, and an ability to be a solid team player.
