Position: Academic Coordinator, PK-3 Language ArtsReports To: Chief Academic Officer
Salary Schedule / Grade: Refer to Administrator Salary Schedule
F.L.S.A Status: Exempt
SummaryThe Academic Coordinator is to work with teachers to improve instructional practice and student academic achievement. Academic Coordinators will be assigned to provide services to buildings.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and facilitate professional learning communities in areas of literacy.
  • Monitor and support the implementation of the district prescribed curriculum and instructional practices. (Including core curriculum, supplemental resources, and intervention programming.)
  • Create and maintain instructional guides for ELA content in grades PK-3.
  • Facilitate collection of contracts and requisition orders with vendors. Retain record of expiration dates and length of contracts. Work with the Chief Academic Officer to make decisions about renewals.
  • Inventory and order curricular materials when needed.
  • Create and maintain formative common assessments.
  • Meet regularly as a member of the Curriculum Team to define building and district level professional development resource needs.
  • Develop and present professional development at the building and district level.
  • Coordinate professional development training and support with third-party providers when necessary. Schedule the sessions/visits and keep in contact with both district and outside personnel about topics and progress.
  • Maintain district curriculum software programs and provide training/support as needed. (Amplify/Mclass [DIBELS 8], core curricular platform, Reading A-Z, etc.)
  • Construct school intervention plans.
  • Consult with building principals to identify and meet individual teacher needs for additional support and instructional improvement. Make recommendations to principals regarding remedies for deficiencies.
  • Provide classroom coaching to teachers and keep a record of communication as well as the focus of the coaching sessions.
  • Conduct informal classroom walkthroughs weekly. Submit notes in the Curriculum Department’s walkthrough tool. Communicate feedback and follow up with teachers after visiting.
  • Facilitate the writing of state-required district literacy plans. Communicate the plan(s) to stakeholders and monitor progress. Maintain and update the plan(s) as necessary. When required, submit to the state.
  • Work in partnership with the district’s department of Assessment and Accountability to meet and maintain all requirements of Ohio’s Third Grade Reading Guarantee, such as the creation and monitoring of Reading Improvement and Monitoring Plans. This includes creation of a process for writing and maintaining RIMPs, training, and communication with teachers and families.
  • Analyze district assessment data and share recommendations at the district, building, and teacher level.
  • Collaborate with other department coordinators to organize district-wide poetry and speech competitions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the U.S.
  • Master’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience within the grade band
  • Current and valid Ohio Teaching and Administrative Licenses
PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES/DEMANDS
  • Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of 40 pounds (100 pounds on wheels).
  • Frequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, climb, and stoop.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Work is performed in an office and classroom setting.
  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
  • Frequent travel to meetings/professional development and work assignments.
